Dear Doctor,

Your LC rep called me back, promptly, unlike your office. I was surprised to learn that your nurse actually entered the wrong diagnoses codes and THAT is why my insurance denied my claim. When I spoke to your nurse she was defensive and implied that it was LC's fault "that she doesn't want to enter diagnosis codes". Grrrrr.

Your rep also enlightened me to a new concept that you are implementing in your office- pass through billing. I understand you will be making a mint! Is it not enough that you are making so much money but now in addition you are blaming LC for insurance denials that started with your nurse.

Oh, and my lab report that LC did not get to you? Your rep can confirm when you recieved it. So don't give me that line again or I will call your rep and embarass you.

Your LC rep is so awesome. If you give her any hell I will leave your practice.

Dear Patient:

It probably was the nurse that does not want to submit diagnosis codes but I have found that LC does not string codes together on certain system. It can depend on IT issues. Don't be so quick to blame the doc. The coding that these offices do is a lot and can be relieved by a little education from the rep or electronically.
Pass thru billing is standard. Docs don't make as much as they used to, though. It doesn't effect you, though. It effects cash pays but an office can set up a discount program for them. Insurance is either going to pay the lab or pay the doc. The lab loses money on it and that does suck for the rep because the value of the account goes down. I do not agree with pass thru billing if the doc is ordering certain tests and not others in an effort to make money.
It is a business and everyone is out to make money with the best service possible. Get over it. Take a look at referrals to tread mills and cardiac tests. That is where the docs are making the real money now. Be leary of where they refer you too. If a doc runs his practice right he can make a killing but most family practice docs can't and won't do it. Doctors don't make what they used to because they don't know how.
