First lunch at this office, 4 docs work out of the office,I was told that the office staff was 20 people and I should bring enough for that many. Only 8 poeple can back, there were a ton of leftovers.
The question is should I leave the leftovers or take them?

Sometimes, if there are a ton of leftovers after bringing in Cracker Barrell Chicken Salad I will grab some of that Colby Cheese and Chicken to snack on while I am driving. That is about it. Another option is to offer to take the leftovers to a homeless shelter, if there is one near by. That can earn some MAJOR staff and Provider Brownie Points!

Take the leftovers to one of your pharmacies. They never get squat and will be forever grateful.

You gotta leave the leftovers. They could've ordered more to cover for the evening staff (if there is one), or I guess they are really greedy.
Whatever the number of people is that the office tells me to bring for, I ALWAYS cut it down by 3-5 and have NEVER been short of food.

Taking the leftovers away that they had you order on purpose? Surely you jest, they'll be pissed. If they are acting as if they like your idea they are seething on the inside.

If you're not planning for there to be leftovers to take home, you are missing a perk of the job.

Dunno where you are at, but in my area, the staff counts on extra food. Some of the staff even have Tupperware that they fill up with the leftovers...pitiful. Must really suck to work in some of these doctors offices, they don't get paid shit. I once let the Office Mgr. order the food for lunch, office of 8 with 2 of them being providers...she ordered $180.00 worth of food from Macaroni Grill, there was enough food for over 20 ppl., she said "oops, i must have mis-ordered", but when they thought I had left, they ALL pulled out Tupperware and started to pack.

The reason they ordered more is because they are cheap and trying to take advantage of you. ALWAYS cut the number by 5-10%, then when lunch is done, help clean up by throwing out the extras. If the other staffers & Drs that you can't see want to come in after, they can eat from the trash! This also sets the standard for you and others after that this industry is not the open wallet caterers that they came to know from previous years.

The fat office pigs I feed never leave left overs.......

I always take left-overs with me. I tell the staff, there is a shelter on my way home, they are so grateful for anything I can bring, surely you don't mind? I have never had an office say no to that.

I always bring my own cooler with ice/drinks unless I am doing a big catered lunch. I don't have the budget for many of those. If I carry in the lunch, which I often do, I only unpack what is necessary and leave duplicates (by my seat, preferably in a shopping bag on the floor) in the bag. If they over-ordered, oh well....it stays packed and then makes a discreet exit in my cooler. From there, it goes to a pharmacy, firestation, another office or my house. I am doing them a favor by bringing lunch. I hate to be taken advantage of!

Ordered a complete dinner (entree, veggies, salad, bread, whole pie) that feeds 4 multipled by 4 to feed 20 in an office. 7 plus 2 drs showed up. 1 whole pie plus 1 unopened complete dinner left. Packed it up to take to another office of 4 people who lunch from 1 to 2 in same building. Staff of first office that had eaten literally chased me down the hall asking me why I was taking THEIR food. Understand, there was still leftovers from the other 3 different entree dinners and parts of 3 different pies, enough to feed at least 6 people--the portions were huge. I explained that I was taking the food to the other office who rarely gets lunch--they blew up, saying you can't take our food to them--we don't like them. I politely explained that it wasn't their food; that my employer had purchased it as a courtesy. I thought it was time to take a stand--there were no patients in the area to see this, and I was just fed up. The two women who chased me are huge women; each at least 100 pounds overweight. They proceeded to tell me that that food was for their kids to eat for dinner, and I couldn't take it. I again politely explained the reality of the situation--that the food was going to another office. They were steaming--the next time I went in to that office, I told the two doctors what had happened and explained that I would not furnish lunch anymore for his staff due to their misunderstanding of exactly why lunch is provided in the first place. They were both embarassed and understanding of my position--I now meet them in a nearby restaurant. The rest of the staff in the office have told me they are glad I took a stand--that these two women take all the leftovers every day--even have their adult kids come by around 2 and get the food. Another suggestion is to find out the charity after hours clinics where your physicians donate time and ask if there is an opportunity to take the food there to those staffs. Ask your physicians what day shelters they support that will take the food. There is also a home for unwed mothers that is a pet project of one of my female doctors that will always take the food. I refuse to leave the leftovers (if significant) anymore.

If they say 20, order for 15.
#2: LEAVE the leftovers; it is tacky to take them.
#3 The reason they say 20, and onky 8 or so came back is because MOST
offices order for DINNER since they stay past 5 or 6 some nights.
Be classy and considerate. They appreciate it. I have NEVER had a lunch where MDs did not attend. Respect breeds respect.

Yeah! but, since most of you only work 3-4 days/week, it may take 2 years for you to have to deal with the office cows! It's easier to figure out which offices play the silly ass game and order less for them or just don't do lunches for them at all. It is fairly straight forward. I had one office order $225.00 worth of food and I saw 2 of the 4 docs. It was no big deal, after the lunch, I went out and cancelled all the rest of my lunches for the rest of the year.
The look of the cows face was worth a million bucks!

Some of the offices in my territory post ads for new receptionists by touting that they provide "free lunches" - turns out these "free lunches" are the ones WE bring to the office...that's disgusting. If a rep feels he/she is being taken advantage of, I LOVE the idea of taking the food and claiming that he/she is taking the food to a shelter...no one can say anything to that. Great idea, whoever that was...

i like the idea of taking leftovers, but i have never had the intestinal fortitude. however, i do pìss on the food that is left over as a way of saying "fùck you" to the over-ordering offices.

In my rural offices they are begging ME to take my food home since I paid for it (well the unc) And get this, they always seem to love what I have except they feel it's just not right that they get to keep the goods and not me?
My access is terrific too. Go figure. I worked in a metropolitan area and never experienced this before?????

I feed my family "leftovers" at least 3-4 days a week.
I actually order extra food to take home to my family whenever I have a lunch.
Usually drop it by my house afterwards and go back out.
Probably save about $5000.00 a year by doing this.
Perk of the job as far as I'm concerned.

Who gives a shit! It's just fuc#in lunch. I got a big ol budget just for this crap, I'll eat it too and if it gets me the access I need to docs, nurses or some important office cow, then SO WHAT!
If a doc is busy and can't make it back for lunch, that's a good excuse for me to come back another day. Better yet, gives me time to fill up the Tupperware for the cows.

Sooo...in the last 2 years this is no longer an issue? Newbies coming to CP all the time - cut them some slack!

So you guys really have time in your day to pack up these leftovers and take them to another office or pharmacy and put it out? I just leave whatever is leftover. I don't care - it's not my money. And I don't have the time, or the space in my car, to be the freaking welcome wagon to numerous offices every day. My car would end up spelling like chicken parm by the end of the week!
If you want to do it, more power to you. I don't have the time.

Let me refer you to the thread about "you arrogant reps!" for an answer to that question. Let the cow tell it like it is from her barnyard.
