I really thought coming to Collagenex would be a great career move. Two years into this....my career took two steps back. I like my manager, but he can't get help with the lofty goals. I am looking to leave now, but after being a successful rep at my previous 2 companies, I now look average to other employers. This company did not follow through on their promise to us.

The writing was on the wall back in 1999 when I left for greener pastures.
Big dreams by Gallagher, poor product, wrong focus and terrible managers are all the reasons for ruining careers. One of the managers is now sticking needles in people as an accupuncturist. I hope this prevents periodontal disease and roseaca.

What promise? Collagenex provides you an opportunity to sell Oracea. You receive an adequate lunch and learn amount and if you are ranked in the top 1/3 you will get around $20,000 in bonus. No one said selling Oracea was easy! If you want to leave, you can always mention that CollaGenex is now just a one product company and you are concerned about long term viability.Although, I am not sure what derm companies are really that much better. Look and let me know if you find a better derm company.

Its very very true! I guess Mr. or Mrs. manager had to throw in their two cents! This place is a joke and does ruin careers! The good part you will notice while interviewing is that other derm companies know what a joke this place has become. It helps to explain why you MUST get out!

Exactly....top 10 and $20K that is a shitty bonus. When Collagenex came calling all us derm reps they were telling us "youll get to launch Oracea and that is when you can really earn some money upwards of 27-30K YTD bonus." No body can get on here and dispute that. All the other bullshit, call times, sigs on every call is no problem if we have some chance to earn some bonus. But I (and many others)made anywhere from 9-14K a quarter for being a top performer previously.

Anyone at ANY other company makes more per quarter than we do here. It is ridiculous. This company has ruined my career as well. Luckily, companies understand/realize what is going on here and will understand why we are interviewing.

The previous quote mentioned top 1/3 made $20,000 not top ten reps! A # of reps are making over $6k a QTR. If you can find another derm job that pays a higher base than CollaGenex-Go for it!!!! While you are looking, I would get out and sell Oracea and build your credibility with your derms. That way if you can not find another job, you still can make some cash next QTR and if you are doing well-you will be less likely to be micromanaged!!!!

It's already happening and it doesn't seem to phase any of the management.

I'm willing to bet you're the only one who thinks you're a "great" rep!! Go back to selling cars, looser!

Its sad that these pathetic dms need to come on here and try and dig themselves out of the horrible reputations they now have. They have no shot at getting a job out of this place, that is for sure! Hope they get themselves lots of raffle tickets for the meeting!

I am a rep not a DM,and I am glad I am at CollaGenex selling to derms. We could be selling primarily to PC. Although, I do not like getting sig only calls and having my DM track my daily activity, my #'s are good which translates to $$$ and less micromanaging by my DM. If you have good #'s you can speak up when confronted about your call times. I think Collagenex offers reps visibility and an opportunity to make changes. I don't think you can blame a company for ruining your career, only yourself!!!

You sound like a DM to me!!! Maybe you are just clueless or your nose is brown. You sound pathetic-get a life. No one enjoys being treated like a child and having someone look over you. Micro management does not produce results-mgmt with direction and motivation HELPS!!!!

To the ones who are bashing the reps here....We are all good reps. We all have had success with other companies. It's not a matter of not working hard like some of the brown nosers like to say on here. It's just a matter of the fact that Collagenex needs to realize what kind of drug Oracea is. It's not a cure all, so the expectation is way too high. When on average, 1-5 reps are making goal... that is an upper management problem. I went from bottom 10 to top 10 in one year, but with NO manage care wins and 3 of my top 5 writers gone for various reasons, it's hard to grow a product that a nice product... not a great one. I'm back down again in the middle of the pack. I know I work hard, but it's not a rep problem. Plus how many of us thought that we would be selling incyclinide next year...OOPS!!! Shit rolls downhill at Collagenex, but the management needs to realize that Oracea is just a 40mg doxycycline.
P.S. I like my manager a lot...so no bashing of my post. It's just honestly.

Incyclinide WAS supposed to be the next Accutane with its "efficacy" going to be so great.
Question:
How could it have gone from SO high on expectations and then crash to the point of stopping all the trials for acne/rosacea?
No one had any idea that this product could not produce?
Upper mgt needs to be cleaned out.
Since Dental folded (Periostat) back in 2005 when it went generic the company almost folded.
They stayed afloat with anticipation of Oracea for a year by selling Investors on 80-100 million in revenue from Oracea when they launched it.
Investors bought in.
Stock was at $4-5 back in early 2005. End of 06 stock was $11-12.
Not a bad return if you're an investor.
Oracea returns $50-55 million. Which in dermatology language is GREAT. BUT, not enough in upper mgt's view.
Periostat was a $50 million product at its height. This was ok for them though.
Now management really has no excuses.
No return left for investors.
Erythema product has to deliver. Yet to be seen.
No product acquisitions. Triax seems to be able to do it w/ Locoid and no money. Chester Valley and Aldara.
No co promotes with other companies. (Duac/Tazorac, Allergan/Finacea).
There could be worse places to be but the best scenario is for Collagenex to be sold by investor pressures or bought by other interests.
Sold for $15-17/share and cash out on options that were given when you came on board.
Decide then to stay or move on.
Upper mgt seems to be loaded with options and I am sure their motivation is to get the stock back up to the $12-13 range.
An offer would be the quickest way there.

its funny you talk about upper management being loaded with options. They are the only people that get any. They talk about how they cannot give alot out because of accounting rules etc however that doesnt seem to effect you if you V.P behind your name. Hey managment! if you want us to have buy in you have to spread the wealth!

Those of us who came from Dermik (most of us) had to get sigs on all calls anyway, so not an issue. I guess it was our mistake to go from one great company, with no pipeline, to a shitty company, with no pipeline, sometimes your right, bases are comparable, however, poor bonus and micromanagement makes it harder on reps. Collagenex culture (the original members) have a huge issue with mistrust and dont really care what the employees think. SO YES a lot of us will go and get a 10% increase and work for another company and that company will probably buy Oracea and sell it in 3rd position.
