Can anybody explain the job postings on the GSK career site for Hematology Oncology Account Manager? I am considering applying and I am curious as to what product it is. The job posting doesn't say what drug, only that it is a 'brand new' sales team.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Does GSK hire from outside for oncology jobs? Don't think so.

The oncology job is a promotion. You will usually have 2500 pharma reps posting for one position. It's freakin' funny.

The fact that the job was posted on the external web site should indicate that they will hire from outside the company.

Hycamtin is not a hematology product.

The previous post is correct in that Hycamtin is not a hem product. The new postion will for Bexxar and if you don't know anything about Bexxar or RIT I would suggest a good amount of research to find out if it is a good fit.

So some reps will continue to sell Tykerb, Bexxar and Hycamtin and another new team will sell just Bexxar? How many reps are being promoted/hired to sell just Bexxar?

No one has been selling Bexxar since spring 07, about 120 selling Tykerb/Hycamtin and they are hiring 12 yes 12 to sell Bexxar nationwide

And a little Arranon where appropriate. This is all about downstream access to the important Heam Oncs who might also down the line prescribe Promacta for Chemo Induced ITP, and also HuMAX for CLL etc, relationship building skills are going to be important for anyone applying.

No shot. Don't hire outside the company for these. Sorry.

Not always true. Sometimes that's done to meet some legal requirement.

So how legal would it be to post a job on an external site knowing you will not hire externally? It would be easier to defend not listing than defending listing and not entertaining external candidates.

My two cents. (CDN)

these reps will promote Bexxar, ofatumomab (humax CD-20) once approved, possibly arranon, and another product coming for ITP. earlier posting was correct, RIT is a unique beast, but the real focus willl be ofatumomab--anyone familiar with Rituxan? look out--large territories--not the typical sales territory. beware Bexxar reimbursement issues.

You are kidding right? The company posts for jobs that have already been filled or a candidate ordained all the time. Case in point are DM jobs that they post but have hand picked the front runner long before posting job.

How does oncology culture compare to other divisions within gsk - pharma, vaccines, etc.? Are the products liked by docs? Is gsk oncology one of the better respected oncology companies? Will the products being promissed be favored by docs?

You sound like another parasitic recruiter fishing for info. Get the fuck out...

GSK oncology went downhill after Kevin was let go. They replaced him with a robot who has zero personality, treats tenured oncology reps like pharma reps and has made no effort to get to know their names.

Why would you go sell this dog of a product? Company stopped promoting Bexxar because no one wanted to use it. For whatever reason, high cost, bad reimbursement, the list goes on. Find somewhere else to go work where you will be valued.

WOW! You said alot, but I can't disagree. Been in the division a while and when your right, your right! Also, how about the size of these territories? Are people that desprite to get out of pharma? WOW again!

Very true that Bexxar is not a high volume product, but there is absolutely no denying that this is a great treatment option for NHL patients. While the company would like to make money in Bexxar sales, right now they just want to make sure that the sales cover the costs of the 12 reps. What has been said here is true regarding future products if approved. You can't just walk into Hem/Oncs with no relationships whatsoever and start selling one of these new drugs. Selling Bexxar is not/will not be easy, but it will give the new AMs an opportunity to learn the field of Oncology for when the bigger potential products come to market.

I had heard that existing Oncology AMs could not post for these positions. Is that true? Not that I would want to cover that much geography, especially where I live, but if the division really wants a shot at having any success with Bexxar, they shouldn't fill the whole expansion group with newbies from pharma. DS will have a lot of work ahead of him if that is the case.

Every open position had over 100 posts. That is totally unfreakin believiable. Does the whole pharma division want to leave? Do you really want a territory that has a radius of at least 500 miles to promote one of the toughest products to sell on the market? Best of Luck, sucker! Oh, I know, the grass is greener on the other side and it's good for your developement. It's going to be soooooo much better than big pharma. Idiots!

You're the idiot who doesn't know the entire story. It is one thing to be perceived as an idiot, and another to open you mouth and confirm it!

The large territories are temporary, based on the planned hem expansion later this year. So when the hem sales force is promoting a billion dollar drug in a smaller, more focused territory, I will ask you who the idiot really was.

Bexxar, Hycamtin, and when available ofatumumab

That is incorrect. It is Arixtra and Promacta, and Arzerra (ofatumumuab) when available. You mentioned the products for the Med Onc team

Be patient young Jedi.

The original poster was correct, but things changed when they consolidated the Business Unit and created the new selling teams.

Be patient.
