They were interviewing for a National Account manager a few months back. No experience working with GPO's but I sent a resume anyway. No luck but they actually sent a thank you but sorry note with an actual signature.

I heard the base was 65 - 70k. They are looking for desperate people (laid off, FP/IM rep. wanting to go into Specialty).

Hopefully, the unemployed rep purchased a vehicle before they got laid off. GTX is giving a car allowance and NOT paying for gas.
They are looking to get qualified people - cheap.

Do you think it is 3 or 4 weeks vacation to start with? I received 4 weeks with Amgen.

Base pay was low for someone with 4 years Oncology and 2 Years Urology. Compensation plan is typical big pharma. Car allowance is very low and mileage is below IRS standard of .55 cents.
I believe the other poster was correct - they are looking for a deal and paying cheap. Too bad though, it looks like it would be a cool place to work.
The pay does not reflect a company launching their first ever "elite sale force" for urology/oncology much less launching their company to the general public. Everyone has heard of Amgen. Everyone knows that Amgen is a power house and has an enormous amount of money (i.e. backing).
No one has heard of GTx and they are starting out cheap so they will remain cheap. The oncology and urology community would be more receptive to a tenured specialty rep with connections and physician buy-in would be easy. With the large territories that these reps will have to cover, it will be hard to build an immediate relationship with the physicians. Having an established relationship will help to launch the product. The company just does not seem willing to "pay to play". This is the big leagues and not Pharma 101.
Step it up GTx or you will get stepped on.

I've been watching this board for some time now & will weigh in having previously gone to a start up eerily similar to GTx...(ICOS). I understand that quote a few ex-Pats from ICOS are now @ GTx & I'm sure the field force will have quite a few.

as a former manager at ICOS, BE VERY CAREFUL GOING TO A START-UP LIKE THIS. YES, TEH MARKET DYNMAICS ARE DRASYTCIALLY DIFFERENT NOW THAN IT WAS 5 YEARS AGAO, BUT HOW HEY BONUS & BENEFITS ARE SIMILAR.

THE bonus plan at ICOS simply sucked. We were going up against the big boys in the ED market & ICOS allowed Lilly to lead it by the nose. It appears there is no JV or co-promote in place, but keep a watch for board decisions that will affect your lives f you should remain; i.e becoming an LLC, filing for a change of control with the SEC, etc. these are precursors for drastic changes. Yes, I heard the story of elite sales force, but after year 1, newbies, less experienced, etc..became the model.

the sell about pipeline is a pipe dream, small companies with potentially great pipelines get bought out by the big guys. the founders will want to simply cash out, pay you 6 months severance, and break-up the band. i see it everyday in my current role and it is how the new pharma marketplace works. also, if your drug does not show superior advantages and you can not discount it accordingly in the managed care arena, you will be eaten alive by the new Obama health care reform in which the big pharma firms such as Merck, Pfizer, Amgen, among others you will compete against will have you on the outside looking in.

Just be careful, don't drink the kool-aid, and weigh all your options even in a tough market. they are looking to buy cheap...& sell-out when the opportunity presents itself. just keep an eye on all board of director public decisions

GTx plans for sales force hires, losses narrowMemphis Business Journal

GTx Inc. plans to hire 65 sales consultants to promote its 80 milligram dose of toremifene should the FDA approve the drug that would treat men with prostate cancer.

But GTx (Nasdaq: GTXI) is “exploring multiple options” as to how the sales force will be hired, according to GTx CEO Mitchell Steiner. He wasn’t sure if the company would roll out its own sales team or contract with a team through a co-promotion.

“The most risky part of building the team is the actual sales people on the pavement,” Steiner said in a conference call. “So, we want to spend as much money as possible” up front to better ensure the success of the sales force.

Steiner said the higher-level marketing staff have all been hired and are working on the commercialization plan for the new drug. But the company is now hard at work putting together the sales materials that will be needed should the drug get the FDA nod.

According to its most recent filing with the SEC, expenses related to increased personnel, medical education and marketing for the toremifene drug family rose 51 percent from $4.3 million in 2008’s first quarter to $6.5 million in this year’s first quarter.

The Memphis-based pharmaceutical company expects to get word from the FDA on Oct. 30.

The company reported $11.3 million in net losses for the first three months of 2009. That figure is 11 percent better than the $12.7 million the company reported in last year’s first quarter.

Revenues fell 20 percent from $4.5 million in 2008 to $3.6 million this quarter. However, sales of Fareston, the company’s treatment for metastatic breast cancer, rose from $257,000 last quarter to $759,000 in this year’s first quarter.

The company’s stock rose slightly in afternoon trading to $9.68 per share, up less than 1 percent from Friday’s close of $9.64.

GTx is a biopharmaceutical company that seeks to discover, develop and commercialize small molecules that selectively target hormone pathways to treat cancer, osteoporosis and bone loss, muscle wasting and other serious medical conditions.

Phone screens start no later than the 2 week of sept. Face to face interviews will be end of sept to the 1st week of Oct. Verbal offers will be in place before the Oct. 30th date. Assuming the drug is approved, offer letters go out immediately after that. Ideal start date 2nd to 3rd week of November. I have no idea if the launch is in decmber or January. I do know that they want reps that have strong relationships with Urologists. Their emphasis is as much on selling the new med as it is introducing GTx itself. They are invested in developing a name within the Urology community. FYI, I spoke with a Concord recruiter about the position. This is where this info comes from.
