Ditto that. I am a DM. I look at everything--including when you log your calls, your milage in comparison to your territory, ect. By the time I get a Wallenhut PI on your ass, all it is-- becomes documentation.

BTW-- I had one rep who drove 120 mph on the expressway after leaving Subway. The PI lost him. Next day, I get video of Applebee's, Olive Garden, and him smoking.... And once again he was driving over 100. Took the heat off me and I fired him with ease.

I know for a fact that they have a certain squad of detectives watching you. There is this manager in Chicago named Ernie, who thrives on having you followed, as well as having your offices called weekly to verify if you were actually there. Your partners are also given an added incentive to rat you out to your manager. It's usually the tenured rep in the territory, and they may get paid to tattle, or promised a nice raise during review time. One thing to be aware of, FYI; ALL new vehicles are being equipped with GPS locators so that fleet can "track down" a vehicle that is "stolen".

That being said, it would be too cost prohibitive to monitor ALL of the thousands of our sales reps. BUT, if someone is a slacker, it will enable (and they are planning on) tracking low performers for possible elimination for not being in the field SELLING from 8AM to 5PM!

You ARE the DM from hell! Even some of the best reps (i.e. multiple tier winners) are NOT selling from 8AM to 5PM! I absolutely GUARANTEE that. Some days they will be on from 7AM to 8PM; other times they will be away on nights and/or weekends for meetings and speaker programs; the bottom line is that if I leave for the golf course at 3PM one day (but worked until 7PM the day before), I would NOT be a slacker. A relative of mine does PI, and said that they get some calls from Pharma. Its the exception and not the rule, usually they are targeting an individual that is under suspect for something. Its not like they follow every rep on an ongoing basis. Oh ya, she also said that they have done work on management in some of the companies. You try and scare the sheep, into compliance, Truth is "if" someone steps out of line, and in your "opinion" they did, you are not the judge of "if" a law was boken. You could say have notes, times dates, locations names who's who, and seek clarification from HR at a later point in time. The time could be say, when some snitch is fucking with you. They are your notes, and you are not a legal expert, but only someone that might say be anal about the days activities with say a manager. GET IT!

Such hostility on ths thread... seems there is still alot of animas left over from the past... and it truly frightens me. Look if they truly want to fire you.... they don't often go to the case of hiring a PI.... they just gather all the evidence from reports and track it vs expenses... its always been that way.... and if you've got other issues (I was on PAXIL CR?) they'll know about it because remember --- you manager has a clue about your work habits... they are, generally, psycho-socially experienced. That means that they really do know when your off your stride. Geez... it ain't rocket science to know that someone is unhappy!!!

I am considering a job at GSK and I am a hard worker. I would feel so betrayed if I found out my manager was having me followed. What a waste of money if this is true. How does that motivate anyone? From all these postings, it seems like managers, or should I say, micromanagers spend more time trying to get dirt on their employees than they do helping them; giving them the tools to succeed, not purposly ruining the reps morale and reputation.
