Dr. Gilgore was one of the greats. He was a leader, and one of the smartest ones. I don't think I have ever seen anyone as creative as he was. And he really understood the business, patients, and doing what's right.

Believe it or not, in the 1980's we actually still had company picnics. I met Dr. Gilgore at one of these events. I remember him dressed in a white tennis sweater, smoking a pipe. Very nice gentleman, very approachable. Great leader. Verfy different from Rumsfeld. Don't know why Pfizer ever let him go.

Gilgore, RIP, was the one who had the whole company dancing to the Cytotec mantra.."diarrhea? Cytotec?"
Remember the Cytotec launch meeting when 500 drunks had to sit still for a piano recital?
That he was brilliant is not disputed. I would suggest, however, that he completely misread his customers and the Searle organization.
