I have got an interview coming up for the Toronto area as a medical daignostics rep. I have been told that it is going to be for omniscan sales. Now I have read a lot regarding NSF and Omniscan on previous threads and know the nature of this business is becoming commoditized, therefore I was a little worried if I should consider this as a stable long term career opportunity: what exactly does the mangaement has in plans for marketing omniscan. Is there any potential for this product in the long term? Is the strategy still the same...i.e. advertise high doses or has marketing become more conscious... I would like to know from anyone in GE if I should jump the ship from my current relatively stable pharma job...I dont want to take this job, if 2 years from now, I find that Omniscan is off the market for declining sales
thanks

When in doubt, stay where it's stable.
Working for GE isn't a real good life; the company demands much of you and when you aren't producing to their ever-changing and challenging standards, they are happy to get rid of you.
Not sure if Omniscan will be off the market due to declining sales, but I doubt if GE has anything in the works for new products in medical diagnostics. And that's what I'd be asking ... what are your near term and future plans for new products (12-24 months; anything beyond that is pie-in-the-sky thinking).
Talk to some radiologists in area hospitals -- what is their thinking about the product line?

You are better off taking a job in the Molecular Imaging division within MDX. They have some products coming out that are needed in the market and most of the new PET agents are coming from GE.
Contrast Media has very mature products. Omnipaque and Visipaque have good combined market share and good GPO penetration. Omniscan still has about 20% of the market and is still number 2 in the US. It still has a stigma around it, but it most likely isn't going anywhere. Optison is getting added to the mix, had some supply issues, probably won't do much when it comes back to the market.
Bitter GE guy that posted before me is a little of target about MDX. The division actually has some decent people in it. Much more secure than the rest of GE, but can be kind of boring. Good luck.

thanks for the replies guys. My interview went well...although I should give a heads up to those coming into MDx for omniscan sales: they specifically asked me as to how I would react in a scenario where I get asked on link of omniscan with NSF...surprisingly enough they also wanted me to describe how omniscan sales can be improved amidst declining mkt sare and price erosion...more like a strategy question...anyway...
while the former question was not difficult, the latter one i was unable to answer so better have some idea before going in
