I used to work for another division of GE a few years ago for five years. For family reasons I took another position. I left in good standing and kept in touch with my former colleagues many of whom are references for me. I saw an opportunity where I live for an opportunity and applied. I had a phone interview with manager and boy I was shocked at how disorganized and unprepared he was. We planned the interview for a particular date and time over email. He called me a few days early. I explained I would be happy to talk, but I was at the airport catching a flight that was leaving in a few minutes. We confirmed the date and time again. We connected at the proper time, but this time he didn't even have the courtesy of having my resume in front of him as he was on the road and driving. His brilliant first interview question to me was "What do you want to be when you grow up?".......Seriously????

When I closed him for the next interview we discussed he had gotten resumes from all walks of life and thought it was "fun" talking with all these people. I'm not sure of this person's age but based on what I do know, he is definately not a kid, despite his attitude. I sent the usual thank you email right away, with of course, no response. But you know what I really think?

Thank You!!!

It is reflection of our economy, I get that, where managers feel they can act however they choose because people are lined up outside but they also need to realize when they come across as unprofessional it reflects personally on them not just their company.
