Anyone ever have any experience as a vet or dental rep? Wondering if it would be easier to break into than pharma? Is the pay any good?

Not easier to break into because of the small number of reps but certainly a billion times better than pharma. No counterparts and you sell real products, not urge them to write scripts. True selling and territory ownership and the pay is based on performance, unlike pharma. I moved from big pharma to dental and made 40% more my first year than my last year in pharma. 6 figures is the norm.

Any help would be appreciated.

I know Astratech just had a big expansion and Zimmer just hired a field force of bone graft specialists but I'm not sure if they are done hiring or not. Usually some turnover in the implant side if you are interested in that. The Rx market on the dental side isn't as bad as pharma but still a pain.

Would love to chat, tried for astratech, never heard back from them (well talked to them 5 dozen times, but no go on my territory, didn't hire here) and will check into zimmer.
Astratech would have been a good opportunity, but u r right about implants, hard sell, I talked to several thought leaders about it before hand and unless pieces and parts are interchangable with other kits, docs tend to stay with one brand, hard to switch them, but would have liked to have tried.
If you want to chat.... my dummy e-mail is msdaisyluu@yahoo.com http://www.cafepharma.com/ubbthreads/images//graemlins/laugh.gif

Arestin is better than Periostat but that market blows. Very little use for it. Docs are extracting teeth and putting implants in. Way too much money involved in implants to pass up.

You have to find a niche with the smaller companies like Innova, Lifecore and Biolok but the big guns like 3i, Straumann, and Nobel Biocare own the market.

Arestin and Periostat are two different types of products, Arestin is a Locally Appied Antimicrobial and Periostat is Sub Antimicrobial Doxy.

Stay away from Orapharma....waste of time. They're terrible to work for. Used to work for a dental company for several years, made decent $$ but didn't have car, expense acct etc. Now in pharma I have those things plus a great salary + bonus. Good luck!

Implant company based in Alabama. Maybe ranked 4th or 5th in market share. Maybe a good entry into implants but make sure they don't make you sign a non-compete. 3i or Noble Biocare are the leaders.

Crap company... But if you want to break into the implant industry BioHazard is a good place to start. Call BioHorizen and ask to speak with Steve Bogan he'll help you out...

Dental Sucks, and for the love of christ do not work for Dentsply - Tulsa Dental. They suck! Just search for "Tulsa Dental" on here and see how bad this company is, there is actually 6 pages!

4th or 5th - What are you smoking? In order of US market share:
Nobel, Straumann, 3i, Zimmer Dental, Astra, Lifecore, then maybe BioHorizons.
Better money and smaller geographic territories at the top. All have disgruntled employees posting blogs on cafepharma - but hell, those who can do; those who can't bitch.
P.S. Vet rep? I guess if you are trying to get your hands on some "special K", but for a career - shoot for dental implants or some other newer technology.

I 2nd this. Have known several ex-dentsply people. They hated that company.
