If you are under 30, have a salary around 65k, attractive and have a science degree with proven numbers. I believe you. Other wise, you are simply dreaming.

You will get recruiters that call, but really does the industry still use recruiters for general pharma and biotech? I doubt it. Place a simple ad on a job board and you will receive hundreds of qualified applicants in the chosen geography.

The best to all that get laid-off. There is life after pharma.

Of course they all still use recuiters! There are many, many successful ones. They weed through the bad and present the great candidates to the companies and are good at what they do. Where have you been? And yes...there is life after the Sunovion disaster and a recruiter helped me find my new job.

One more thing: they don't care how old you are. They care about proven results and how well you interview. 5 of us 'old-timer' over 40 Summit reps found good jobs right away.

Your are a in pharma. remember you do not sell. You are in marketing and PR. Do you believe you made difference? The worst part you claim to be 40 years old - and you still believe your own stories? Your numbers were driven by managed care or you were paid on Medicaid numbers. Numbers that are not true revenue, because the meds are almost given away.

You are 40 and still a rep. Special

The person posting this is either a recruiter trying to hold on to their value within this industry which we all know they have little to no value anymore OR it's posted by someone just pulling your leg. Trust me.... there are no great immediate jobs out there paying 100K salary for a PC rep who also called on some specialists. Especially ones who are 40 or over and been in this industry longer than 5 years. I have seen posting for pharma jobs with small companies who specifically say they DO NOT want people who have prior pharma sales exp. and ones that also say they do not want reps with big pharma exp.

Lets put it this way...the older you are and the longer you have been in this industry the more difficult it will be for you to find a job in pharma sales. Factor in the base salary you made at your last company and you will almost never find that salary again. Most people I know who lost their job and found another one took big big cuts in the base salary. If you don't believe me go do the research and look at how few job postings there are and what the salary range is for some of them. DMs are in bigger trouble than reps. I'm still trying to figure out why you all want back into this horrible, embarrassing to work in industry unless it's true biotech???

I am not saying this to be mean or disparaging. There are still select recruiters in the industry that are highly specialized. Pharma analytics, bio-research, ect

A recruiter has all day to be on the phone. The vast majority are "fishing". I know for a fact that recruiters that made their living in the industry are dying just as we are. Most are barely holding by a thread as they seek a new industry to develop contacts. It is over for them too.

I have has recruiters call about jobs that are plastered over every conceivable job board. It is humiliating for all involved parties.

6-8 years ago if a recruiter called about a job it at least lead to a phone interview witha hiring manager. Not anymore. Do not place false hopes in getting a job because you got a phone call from a recruiter. Recruiters are no different than anyone else. Everyone wants to hear about your divorce -once.

There are enough ways to track down the hiring manager and make your statement without a recruiter. They are not needed in big pharma any longer. Like banking, it is no longer a nice job in a glass building. Banking today is conducted at every major retail grocery chain in America. Times have changed.

I should have clarified the point. Cafe pharma will become as extinct as drug reps, bankers and pharma recruiters.
