Many people have made the transition from pharma to home healthcare sales. The interesting thing is that the influx of pharma reps has actually lowered the salary in home healthcare sales. You will enjoy that you do not have to keep track of samples but there is no expectation of bonuses. I know people who have been in home healthcare sales for years with Amedisys and others home healthcare companies. Bonuses are really only paid to a small portion of the salesforce. You will have to live on your salary unless you are lucky. Amedisys is one of the only home healthcare to offer a company car but you do pay for it although not as much as you would a car payment. This can make an easier transition if you are giving up a company car in pharma. You will be lucky to see above 65k in salary. This was about 70-75 before the huge influx of laid off pharma reps.

In an overall basis, the job is much harder than Pharma. Tough to see doc or decision maker. Huge competition. Lots of recent industry fraud scaring off legit referral sources. Also:

Much tighter on expenses
Recovery (financial) underway so time frames for success are very short
Huge recent turnover in key positions
Company really has no "heart" or key leader...they ran them off a couple of years ago
Sliding revenues...horrible clinical outcomes in most markets.

Google home health compare to do your local clinical outcome research.

Working for AMED now is nothing more than a job. Used to be great, now just another 9-5.

Agree with all the above...home health care market will be squeezed financially over the next few years. The pressure to perform ,and perform quickly is intense...otherwise you are gone. Have seen turnover in as little as four months from hire to end...so choose carefully and if a better offer...take it!

I really appreciate the feedback. I already like this board better than my pharma board. Pharma is a dead end industry, so I'm just looking for some stability. Thanks again and good luck!

I'm interviewing with Amedysis for an out-of-state hospice position (I'm thinking of relocating out of California for the more affordable real estate). My guess is they're pretty desperate if they're willing to interview relocation candidates...but hey, it's a job.

It used to be a career, but it is only a job now. No stability. Reaching quotas are controlled by clinical staff and don't let some slick talking AVP tell you any different. If the DOO or nurse doesn't feel like admitting a pt, then they won't!! Quality is a joke...it's all about quantity.

Does Amedisys provide a cell phone or cell phone reimbursement? Do they reimburse internet access/high speed at home? How much is a typical marketing budget for a territory per qtr?

Thank you

They provide you with a blackberry and laptop as well as company car. No reimbursement for home internet. Monthly fee for company car taken out of your check or you can go with mileage reimbursement for your personal vehicle.
You will be micromanaged and under intense scrutiny to perform quickly...review this board carefully before accepting position.
