Is it W-2 (Direct) or 1099? If it's W-2 you will get insurance (really good..Aetna), 401K with matching, stock purchase plan, etc.. If you attend meetings the company will reimburse you for airfare and hotel. Doctor lunches and meals are also reimbursed. You are still responsible for gas, parking, etc. Granted as an associate the only meetings you are likely to attend will be national sales and training. If you are 1099 you get none of the above. Whether you are W-2 or 1099 be prepared to work hard. You are essentially at the beck and call of the rep you work under. You will spend your long days (6:30am to 5:30pm sometimes 8:00pm) delivering and picking up sets. Occasionally you may get off early like around 3:00pm. Watching cases and learning the ropes. You will still be expected to study an hour or two a day on your own time. The good reps still read all the time as the learning never stops. If you complain about the miles, gas, long days, etc. then be prepared to look for another job. If this is your only opportunity to break in the business then it is a good position. If you have other opportunities at the bigger ortho companies I would consider those. Don't ever be late to a case and if you don't know the answer tell the doctor you don't know. Good luck.

If this is your only opportunity then take it. It's a great place to learn and if you do well then you'll get offers from bigger companies after a year or two. They'll find you. If you're selling foot and ankle you may want to stay. If you're Ortho Recon you'll want to leave. The key is to be friendly with EVERYONE in the hospital. From the person who cleans your dirty instruments to the OR desk to the competition. You should know everyone's name and they should know yours. People talk and one day a nurse might ask the Depuy rep why you aren't working for him. See where I'm going? As for pay, with Wright as an associate it's probably around $60,000. You'll probably have some sort of bonus as well. 1st year would be around $65K - $70K. Give or take a few grand.
