For the first time in 25 years, my mother is finally sleeping thanks to 2mg of Lunesta. Only side effect is a really horrible taste in her mouth the day after. I hate to see her stop taking this, but she said it is quite bad. Any ideas on how to help this? Thanks!

Builds tolerance after three nights and causes increased early morning awakenings vs. placebo.

How about the 15% somnolence (next day) rate? Oh, by the way only 7 hours BEFORE the tolerance sets in.

What % of patients complain about somnolence with Ambien CR? Little to none. What % of patients complain about metallic taste with Lunesta? Many. The Lunesta reps are trying to create a problem (somnolence) that just isn't there with Ambien CR, while they need to focus on a much larger problem which is their own compound that is flawed.

You're a liar! Look at the PI for Ambien and the PI for CR and look at the AE. What is the incidence of somnolence in each PI? Yeah, that's what I thought. Lunesta, Sonota, and Rozerem reps aren't making it up! It's right there in black and white along with alot of other increased AEs. You,too, can have all this for an extra 18 minutes of sleep with CR! If the worst thing you can say about Lunesta is the taste, then go right ahead.

guys hate to burst all your bubbles - but tried both products - cr sucked and the taste with lunesta was too much to handle --- in terms of that somnolence question lunesta rep and cr rep I would challenge you both to do a little research to understand how the defination of somnolence differs between the two pi's. Your not comparing the same thing. lunesta rep if your going around complaining about somnolence by your defination your selling cr buddy!!! somnoloence was self reported by patients. many patients could have reported this at any point in time - don't you want a sleep aid to make you sleepy. when you look at the cognitive tests after 8 hours there is little impairament - i belive lunesta was a little unfair in their approach - didn't they look at a time frame of 9+ hours for cognitive impairment. You want data Lunesta rep, it speaks for itself. As for the CR rep every doctor knows about the bad taste really is that a selling point. It sucks but efficacy is where its at. By the way to all you reps I love Lunesta but will never use it again you are crazy if you think OJ or anything solves the taste problem. I tried that, it did not work. The verdit is still out in terms of CR's efficacy - it did not work for me, but I have heard positive feedback from others. I have also heard Lunesta does not work from many physicians and I loved it - minus the taste. HONEST ANSWER. I would throw both of you out my office!

The bottom line is the patient feedback the docs will get; you can argue all the stats you want, but patients will want to try both, thanks to all the dtc advertising and then will stick with what works best for them.

Bottom line is this. If Ambien CR"s (Cover Revenue). efficacy is no better than placebo after 2 weeks, then the drug is no good. Proof is in the pudding. No efficacy. Side effects do not matter if drug does not work. Period.

sorry but I do not sell either of these drugs (although I have worked for both companies) and the taste w/ lunesta is AWFUL!!! The PSS rep told me the OJ thing but it is still unbearable. I can take ambien and not have any SE's, sleep thru night, not groggy and no nasty taste. Why would I ever change? I gave lunesta a fair chance but that taste lasted all day!!!! Maybe you should market it for wt loss b/c it made everything taste bad. Now, if you sell this drug don't start bitching. Admit the limitations and get over it. When you start talking trash it just proves you do not know how to overcome objections/rejection.

Its pretty simple actually...ambien has been the market leader forever and now it is better. not a different drug..just delivered different, for an improvement in sleep. you can say all you want about tolerance blah blah blah. but if regular ambien worked good cr will work better. so keep grasping for whatever you can..u will lose..thats why we sold it to you

Hey Sanofi Robot. Did you forget what they taught you in Sales School?
You don't make a Pharmacokinetic claim out of Pharmacodynamic evidence. It is unethical to try and correlate 1/2 life IN THE BLOOD with duration of activity IN THE BRAIN.
If Dr's really thought 1/2 life was important they would not use Ambien CR at all since the 1/2 life is nearly identical to Ambien. Go back to sales school newbie.

dipshit...read better. did i mention half life above....NO!!! by the way do you really think any of that shit you just said makes any difference to dr's ...if you do then you are obviously the "newbie" ...idiot. dr's don't give a shit about that crap with a sleep aid. they go with comfort level and what the patient wants. bottom line is cr is not going after lunesta all we care about is switching patients currently on ambien to cr. it is a line extension, everyone knows that. does it matter...NO. dr's will write it because the like ambien and they think it might be a little bit better in a disease state that is pretty satisfied..at least satisfied enough to not rx lunesta bc of the side effects.. so say what you want but the only reason a dr will rx lunesta is bc they like you but ultimetly cr will win out..after he/she gives you your 15%..enjoy

Patient/Rep here:
I've taken Ambien, Lunesta, and Ambien CR. Here's my unbiased opinion for what it's worth.
Ambien CR- Works the same as Ambien with a little more hangover. Seems to linger in my system a little longer. After taking it for a couple of weeks, I had no reason to continue taking it over Ambien 10mg. I was told it releases itself again after 2 hours to help you stay asleep. Trouble staying asleep isn't the problem. Initiating sleep is the tough part.
Lunesta- Obviously the metalic taste is there. It isn't horrible, but it's not exactly pleasurable either. Works well at the 2 or 3mg dose. Leaves a hangover. Good thing- It didn't cause me to have amnesia like Ambien. I actually remembered falling asleep when I was on it.
Ambien- I currently take it each night. After trying the alternatives, I decided the original Ambien 10mg worked the best for what I was trying to achieve- 6-7 hours of restorative sleep with no hangover. The amnesia can be a little scary, so I have to be sure I'm not on my computer or plan on having sex. Apparently, I called my mother one night to ask for directions to the nearest gas station. She asked if everything was OK and if I was drinking again. I didn't even remember talking to her. But, I still think it's a better drug for what I'm trying to achieve.
The Winner: Ambien 10mg
The Alternative: Lunesta
The Loser: Ambien CR
Since this is the Sepracor board: If you aren't talking about the amnesia with Ambien, you are missing a big opportunity for Lunesta. The amnesia with Ambien is a bigger issue than you think. Have your doctors start asking patients about it. The patients won't bring it up unless the doctor asks. I didn't say anything to my doctor until he asked if I was experiencing the amnesia. I was like, "Yeah...as a matter of fact.....I do have that."

Hmm, do ya think it has anything to do with the fact that this product is pushed on every TV station I watch, morning, noon, and night. Of course patients are going to go in and ask to be put on Lunesta, and Dr's will want them to try it. Stop patting yourself on the back. You are doing NOTHING at this point to create this kind of growth, except bring in samples and lunch.

No need to stop taking the drug---have your mom put a little water in the back of her throat (as if she were to gargle), tilt her head back and drop in the pill and swallow. Very simple, you never know the pill is there, thus no taste whatsoever. I've done this for years and take all my pills at one time like this. Not real pretty for public, but effective.
