I'm a little frustrated with our "colleagues"... is anyone getting any real value from them?

Marketing, what marketing? I would be happy with informative mailings to my clients but even that is not happening. It certainly would be nice to get some help. They rely too much on the sales reps delivering the important information to the clinicians. We should be reinforcing the information, not being the focal point of delivering the information.

You haven't been in sales too long have you? Let me enlighten you Grasshopper; the disconnect between Mkt and Sales is quite common in biotech/ healthcare. Get used to it.
The only thing you can count on Mkt'ing for is crashing our parties/ fun at Sales Meetings.

LC marketing's done an excellent job of branding, but they are severely lacking in other areas.

We are not a small biotech company and this "grasshopper" has spent many years with biotech companies where marketing has an active role working to support the sales function.
I assume you probably came from a company where there was a huge disconnect between marketing and sales and are accustom to litte to no help but that is not the norm nor is it appropriate.
Quest is actually doing a much better job marketing than we are.

I'm glad you have seen better, but I have spent 10 years (3 companies) selling without much support. Nobody in our Marketing Dept is seemingly worth a damn - please tell me if I'm wrong?

I have experienced the benefits of a good marketing team supporting the sales efforts but unfortunately, marketing is pretty non-existent at LabCorp and I am not sure why it is tolerated.
The best marketing teams are those whose incomes are related to the revenue growth of their product line. It's only then do you see the connection and support with the sales force.
We need to have regional marketing support, not national. That way the programs are driven by the needs of the region and the marketing managers are in the field with the sales reps.
But I guess it's only a dream.

Maybe we should apply some our relationship building skills to our own Marketing Department. Problem is, I can't think of anyone I would want to spend that sort of time & effort on?

The problem is that they just spent a great deal of effort getting rid of most of the regional support. I agree that the national need or focus, is not always that of a particular region. I was a product of that support that was euthonized and will be giving that support to other that LC. Shame that LC is traveling in a downward spiral, because I really believed they have a good product, just very bad leadership.

Sure I have, Andrew Ginsberg and his wife, Marnie, have attended the Bible Church for six years and are the parents of Gillian (3 years) and Kyra (10 months). Andrew plays trumpet from time to time on stage in Sunday Services, and has been involved in the College Encounter Sunday School. Currently, he serves as chair of the Budget Committee, and enjoys his time in small group with four other Bible Church families. Andrew met his wife when they attended Duke University, where he studied political science and genetics. Currently Managing Director of LabCorp’s clinical trials division, he supports new medical therapies through research and development.
Here's a link to his handsome face:

Sure I know Andrew, what else would you like to know?
