View Full Version : Anyone Burned Bridges Here?

I know they say to take the high road and that the world of pharmaceuticals is a very small one but I'm thinking of leaving this place and actually saying the truth to my DSM and others as to why.
I don't ever care to come back to AZ and I would just state the facts matter-of-factly as they happened.
Anyone here ever not taken the high road when leaving and may have actually burned a bridge (or know someone who did)?

You know how it is: A little here and a little there, and the next thing you know it's all over the place. That's my two cents, anyway.

tell your DSM they are great
provide documentation and specific examples to HR
make a list of your references - call them tell them all the positive reasons you're taking a new job - do not share any negatives - ask them NOW if they will be a reference in the future (0nly after you take the new job)

If you want to make an impact, send to letter by certified mail to Dave Brennan and the national sales mgr for your team. Point out all the good things first then go to bad things.
A letter like this will have a hugh impact. Phone converstions are forgot in 2 days. Let me know how it goes. You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders...good luck!!

Been there...done that! Believe me, no one cares, and that is the reason that AZ is in the situation that it is...that of a major company becoming second rate. The people who have run this company since the merger have turned themselves off to just about everyone but their own little clique, and failure has become the rule. When they finally turned to outside help they turned to the same rotten consultants as the rest of the industry; and like Pfizer, Merck, and others, they got bad advice. Now they are paying the piper, and have nowhere to go. Obviously the in-house talent is not doing the job. The once great salesforce has been demolished, R&D has been aborted, and (except for Nexium) AZ's national media campaign has been a failure...at an incredible expense. AZ has repurchased about as much stock as any company in the industry in an effort to hold the stock price, but that also has failed, with little to no interest from the investment industry.
We may very well be seeing a company in its' final days as a force in this industry. AZ will have to look at the possibility of a forced merger or an outright fire sale to survive without a viable pipeline. It could happen soon and would involve a great deal of AZ blood letting. We can only hope that those that created the problem pay for their stupidity. Somehow, I doubt that will happen.

It is never worth it to burn a bridge in this industry. I did it somewhat a few years ago and it has come back at me in several different ways. It is not worth it. Take out your anger somewhere else or just let it go altogether.
You never know who you will work with in the future so I would highly advise to always leave on the best terms possible.

never burn bridges. as good as it may feel in the short term, you are one merger away from being in a very bad situation. also, what if your DSM gets hired at your new company. dont laugh, ithappens.
