I'm interviewing and would like to know how long it usually takes for a rep to make it into management. I don't mind getting started and putting up numbers but I really want to manage.

Could be 6 months could be 6 years. Ask Mark Poore. There is no career path. If you are choosen, you are choosen, if you are past up-forget it- you will never have a chance. BTW, if you interview and say that you want to manage, you will not move forward becuase during the interview process they will constantly remind you that you are interviewing for a rep position-period-no promises to move into management, training, etc.....you are a rep and that is it.

If you want to manage go to company that has a development program for that. This place does not and hires from outside more than in for managers. If just getting started big pharma may be way to go just be prepared to move when they offer. The key to it all is mobility go where the opening is and succeed. Ther rx not the place good luck hope that helps.

Mark Poore what a joke. The only reason he is successful is location, location, location..Any monkey can manage in Florida, sorry the managers are monkeys! Move him to the west and he will have his resume out like the rest of us!

Mark Poore is a great guy and long overdue for a promotion to manager. Mark has worked hard to become a manager and deserves everything he has received. Everyone that knows Mark and has observed his good attitude and work ethic think alot of him. Only someone that does not know Mark well or could maybe be jealous of his accomplishments could say such a thing.

There are great reps here that should and will be great managers but as we all see, Ther-Rx only hire and promotes those that can't stand up for anything. The weak and the dumb!

Why is it that anyone that has a DIFFERENT POSSITIVE opinion gets call an a-hole. You are right, I have always been a bad speller, but that has nothing to do with being a good saleman. This company has many excellent sales people that love who they call on and many of us really respect our managers. I think the managers do not like the situation of having no say, but they do the best they can in a bad situation. I think they have enough sense to fight the battles they can win or maybe influence for the better, but standing up is suicide. I stay at Ther-rx because I love who I call on and my manager is a very honable person that I have alot of respect for. He treats me with dignity and respect. Respect is something that must be earned, it can never be demanded. I have been in Big Pharma and I hated every minute of it. Ther-Rx might not be the best company, but they have always done right by me in the long run. Oh, and by the way, I am not Sarah. I am just a hard working rep that loves what I do and am thankful to be in the situation (great manager, great district) I am in. Call me what you will, but I like working for Ther-Rx. When the negatives far exceed the positives, I will look for another job. Until then I will work hard everyday and I am thankful for it.

C'mon how may "positives" can you really have. So you like your manager, and he respects you and you like the OBGYN's. That's okay and understood.

But... Do you like being told who to see, what to say, how many samples to leave, writing reports explaining your sample to call ratio and reach and frequency, weekly trackers, explaining why Gynadog isn't growing, losing 40% of your bonus because you are expected to sell a product no one needs or asked for - encora, not having managed care coverage, having no access money for in-services, listening to the BS success stories, getting your direction from a marketing team that thinks the sales force is lazy, working to reach goals that are based on an entire market without consideration for formulary status, expected to get Rx's in a public aid market where patients must pay cash, having goals set so far out of reach that a bonus check isn't possible... the list goes on and on...

You my friend, have been drinking the kool-aid and Ther-rx is thankful for it!

You are very thorough in listing the negatives. I would say your list is also very accurate, but these are things we as reps can't change right now. There are alot of tasks that we reps follow made up by the higher-ups that have never sold Ther-Rx products, but the good things I have mentioned far out weigh the bad things that I do not agree with. I don't agree with or appreciate reps losing 40% of their bonus on Encora. I hate it that the goals for Gynazole or Clindesse are thought to be unattainable. I thought it was a slap in the face to triple the quota on Encora when only 6 out of 90 reps were paid last quarter. NO ONE will make any Encora bonus next quarter. I to feel as you do that these are Big Pharma solutions that do not apply in a Small Pharma world. I am blessed to have a good marrage, great kids and a supportive family. These are the things that I hold most dear. Your job is what you try to do at the best of your ability to take care of those we love. Don't sweat the things you can not change. Choose your battles. Play their gave, but work it to your advantage. You know change is like the wind at Ther-Rx, it will change at any time and many times it changes directions when you least expect it. As far as marketing goes, Mary Claire is the best thing that has happened to Ther-Rx in a long time.

Oh yeah, as far as kool-aid goes I love Ther-Rx grape. Look I have been kissing Doctor's asses to get there scripts for years. That is the name of the game and I do it well. You must admit that everyone kisses ass if they are successful. I have been doing it for so long I have kinda developed a tolerable taste for it and would not know how to live without it. When you are just starting out in Pharma you will many times resent the ass kissing, but that is how you must play the game to be successful.
