I would love to hear from experienced pharma reps:
Why pharma? Looking for the pros and the cons.

Interesting products (if you like medicine/health subjects), company car (with everything paid: insurance, gas, oil checks, inspections, repairs, etc.), a budget for spending money on the doctor offices, a budget for buying office supplies, indpendence (no boss hanging over your shoulder)...now if you have a micro manager, he/she may call you a lot or ride with you often, but otherwise you don't have to deal with them...it's not like they're in the office with you.
You can stop at the convenience store when you want to, or take an hour out of your day for a dentist appt., or to check on your dog, etc. You don't have to deal with catty people in the office environment, except at meetings (which is hardly ever).
If you can climb your way up the ladder, you can make big bucks in about 10 years (or sooner if you work smart and know the right people).
There are other pros too, but others may share their reasons.
Good Luck!

One perk is you can regularly get some decent drunk pharma Barbie snatch at national meetings. I've poked more pharma whores than granny pokes her oin cushion. Gotta let a playa play!

Sorry to be the bearer of the glass half full version, but here goes. Pharma is more difficult that specialty. Family practice and internal medicine docs are getting harder and harder to access. Big pharma has flooded the offices with 5 reps per drug! Makes it hard for us little guys to get appts, etc. Also there is a lot more competition with big pharma companies. But you gotta start somewhere. Hope that gives you a complete picture.

This is so true. But attending National Sales meetings with the bimbo barbies showing off their latest installations is well worth the trouble in the field. You'll never find a more shallow group of hobags in one location. A couple of drinks, a few lies and whammo, you're riding bareback with the bimbo's forehead playing spanky with the headboard. And, you're getting paid to play. How can anyone complain.

I have been in this profession for over 30 years. There have been a lot of changes along the way, a lot of ups and a lot of downs but the rewards have always been worth the effort. There a lot of companies to get started in, find one and see if you like what you are doing, if so, look for the company offering the best products, package and territory that you can find.
When you find the pefect job, go for it. I did it, raised five kids through college and have got no complaints. Good luck
