I know nothing about soccer, but I watched all three games, and could tell the U.S. was outclassed. But I also know the reason: Soccer is (at best) the "Fifth" sport behind football, basketball, baseball and hockey, whereas other countries have their best athletes.

Could you imagine if Deion Sanders, Terrell Owens and Barry Sanders grew up playing soccer? The world can have soccer. I like our football.

I think they should change the name of football (soccer in the US), to diving. I thought hockey and basketball had to many people falling down but they have nothing on the fucking pussies playing in the World Cup, they get touched and they fall like they have been hit by a car and then they are on the field writhing and crying like a fucking baby. Yeah, the soccer players who fall like pussies and get carted off are real tough. They would not last two seconds on a football field. The only "fat" guys are the offensive lineman and noseguards, and those guys can still get up and down the field. Any other position could run circles around soccer players, including most quarterbacks.....because the soccer players can't run if they are laying on the ground because they were tripped.

Do you really think Landon Donovan could last two seconds on a football field?

Everybody relax and have some dip. I love football and futbol. Yes, one of the main reasons soccer isn't big here is because first of all: kids usually end up playing a different sport other than soccer in America. Second of all, soccer isn't commercially viable in the US. No commercial breaks, no money. Got it kids. But soccer is tough to play. You try running 6 miles everyday. It's tough man. And the penalty kick they gave against the US verse Ghana was bullshit. Just my two cents.

I agree. Soccer is a very tough sport on endurance. We just have to realize that the soccer players from the U.S. usually aren't the best athletes. Freddy Adu said that kids in his country grow up playing soccer like we grow up playing baseball. Ghana is a small country, but that is all they have.

I agree with both of you, but I disagree about the penalty kick versus Ghana. I think it was a bad call, but I also think that if they would have tied 1-1, they should have been ashamed to move on after scoring one goal (one REAL goal) in three games. The U.S. can say "what if" all they want. "If" Italy didn't score an own goal, the game versus Ghana wouldn't have mattered anyway, because we would have (and should have) been eliminated. I know the red cards versus Italy where also bullshit, but the refs were bad all over.

I agree with you that teams should not use the words "World Champions", but what sport is tougher physically than football? Soccer is harder from an endurance standpoint, but from a physical standpoint, there is nothing that compares in soccer to going over the middle for a pass and getting lit up by a strong safety.

I don't really care that nobody else plays football. There are plenty of sports that some countries have and others don't. Do you really think there are any baseball teams in Europe? Or Sumo wrestlers in South America? Or Australian Rules Football in the U.S.?

When looking at Football and all that padding and playing for 10 minutes at a time, the constant stopping which helps a player to catch their breath etc then please do not say it is a difficult sport or the hardest sport when clearly it is a bastardised soft ass version of rugby....

Why are you focused on padding? Are you telling me that because they don't wear pads, it is a tougher sport?

Rugby is just as physical as football, but there are much better athletes in football... not the lineman, but the skill positions. And I have no idea what a "scrum" is until this day.....can you please tell me? I would like to understand the episode of Friends when Ross plays it.

For one a person who watches 'friends' has no right discussing sporting matters, unless they are in a conversation on netball or some other girly hobby! Rugby is far more physical than football, for a start you play a whole 80mins continuous, it moves fast with little stoppages, the tackles are harder and more often than the pussy game of football
