Am I part of a minority that had a positive experience from Chantix? I had moments when I was a little tired and nauseous, but I suppose that's better than the cancer that seems to run in my family. :( I had three aggressive moments during my entire treatment and really wild, lucid, vivid dreams that I considered "night-time adventures". I did feel the same depression (and the aggression can probably be attributed as well) as I experience when I quit smoking cold turkey, but not as severe. It's difficult to readjust after spending your entire life with the security blanket of a cigarette. Activities don't seem as fun without them, but I quickly passed that phase. Maybe I'm just an optimist. Maybe my long-since past experience with drugs has given me strength to not succumb to it...

I don't think you're in the minority at all. Glad you've had some success in quitting. Once the press gets involved, they won't stop until they have people terrified to try Chantix. If you look down the list of side effects people are reporting, ask anyone who's quit nicotine cold turkey about how they felt and you'll get pretty much the same list, more or less. I know I did.

ARE ANY OF THESE SIDE EFFECTS ASSOCIATED WITH NICOTINE REPLACEMENT THERAPY

No but your writing in all caps makes me want to commit suicide.

How many people OFF Chantix but QUITTING SMOKING have committed suicide?

    I'll bet a lot more!

It's bullshit stories like this that sell more newspapers, magazines, and airtime than anything!

There are 30,000+ suicides a year in the US. To blame 55 of them on Chantix without more research and you may as well say driving a Ford or reading anonymous message boards was the cause and probably just as accurate.

If you're an older white male, live in California, have access to a gun and know someone who has already tried to kill themselves you might want to think twice before trying to give up smoking as well.

Get real. I quit smoking cold turkey about 10 years ago. I didn't feel like committing suicide. A little edgy, perhaps a little but I certainly did not have the urge to end my life.

Now when my doc put me on an antidepressant once after going through a divorce--I had strange thoughts and very, very strange and exotic dreams.

The point is this. Chantix effects brain receptors. Brain receptors effect behavior. Simple logic. I believe it will be found, that when you add "anti-depressants or other mood stablizers with Chantix---chemical reactions will exist which may cause problems in some people. Throw in a little alcohol and the problems will most likely worsen.

Remember, Chantix was not studied in patients who were on anti-depressants. Most likely for a good reason.

    Quitting smoking is depressing.

If a doc told me he was worried about Chantix in a patient already on Zoloft, I would tell him to keep the Zoloft going (baseline maintenance treatment, right?), and put the Chantix in to help them quit smoking.

Schmooze the doc, just like always, say that we're still looking into it, say that there were 29,000 people that killed themselves OFF Chantix this year, and just wait for bonus time. Easy.

YOU are going to tell the doctor what to do? Are you an MD? If not, for goodness sake, stfu, drop your samples like a good girl and get the hell out of the office! Pfizer has enough legal issues without you screwing us further.

Oh, right! Sorry, I must have forgotten myself there for a second. I would feign ignorance, tell the doc that we haven't gotten any official reports, that there haven't been any changes to the P.I. yet, that I kind of heard something like that a while back, and would he like me to send a Medical Inquiry for him.

Lord knows I'm not a "Health Care Consultant." What was I thinking? I'm just a drug rep. Shit! I need to keep telling myself that! I'll just keep up with the nodding and smiling. Thanks!

Oh, yessir. Just sign riiiight there!

A Medical Inquiry won't get you any actual numbers.

You don't think I know that, shitwit?

I was listing off all of the bullshit answers we're supposed to give when we're backed into a corner with a valid question.

Maybe you need to read your module on objection handling again. I think it's titled: "Bullshitting 101 -- The Pfizer Way"

This is not a joke and I resent those on this board making suicide jokes or claiming that there is no validity to the Chantix-suicide link.

My father was happy, fulfilled, had a 1 year old granddaughter, great job making great money, no debt, beautiful house, and was retiring in a few years. He had no previous depression or psychological issues of any kind and no indication of suicide. Yet, 6 months ago, after taking Chantix for 2 months, he went into a field near his home and shot himself with a rifle. I lost my hero, my daughter lost her grandpa, my grandfather lost his son, my aunt lost her brother, and my husband lost his best friend.

How funny is it now? This is happening, and families are losing loved ones. Our family will never be the same. Maybe you should think before you write.
