DUI and employment

They do after a certain period of time if you otherwise have a clean record--I know some of them do . I have a few friends who got them a long time ago and did get in. But , they had an otherwise clean record except for that. I think it's like 5 or 7 years--not sure.

The laws are so strict now and they keep lowering the limits. It is mainly a money-making deal for the states. IT's all about money and M.A.D.D. I don't condone drunk driving at all, but I know how easy it is to get a d.u.i. after just a few drinks due to the lowered limits.

I rarely have more than one drink and drive. It's not worth it. Too many people are getting d.u.i's now. I think they just pull people over blindly to see if they can catch them.

 

I agree that they will pull you over for suspicion. I was leaving a restaurant/bar one night.... and it was weird. I had this feeling that I was being watched. I got in my car and left the parking lot. I was pulled over less than two blocks away. It was pouring down rain. I had used my blinkers. I was not speeding. The police officer asked if I was having trouble driving. It was raining so hard you could barely see the roadway, but I was maintaining my lane and I was not drunk. I hadn't even had a drink. He did a test with his penlight in my eyes and told me to have a nice night. I got his badge number and name and said that I know you are just doing your job and saw me pull out of that restaurant/bar parking lot, but I was obeying all of the traffic laws and should not of been pulled over. Thanks for wasting everyone's time. Go catch a real criminal. Btw, I have heard all of this talk of racial profiling and I know it exists... I am white... they are after all of us. Be careful, don't drink or do drugs.... especially in your car.

 

It is TOTALLY a money making proposition. The laws are so strict now, and it's to get money.

They pull people over all the time to just try to catch them even if they aren't drinking.

 

They are after all of us. They do need to go and catch a real criminal. I can't stand most cops. They are usually just people who crave and love authority.

 

5 to 7 years is what I've heard from HR--everyone can make a mistake--we all could have gotten one--at least anyone who has been out after work for a few drinks. It can happen--not good, but it doesn't mean you are a terrible person. I don't judge others as I know how easy it can be to get one due to the lowered limits.

Yeah, DUI never hurt any innocent people, ever. You should be able to break whatever law you don't agree with because cops are power hungry authoritarians, yeah, you got it right you irresponsible douche.

Oh, you are so ignorant. You're the one saying a large company, in an industry already filled with huge potential for liability claims, should look over something as serious as a DUI. Look up the stats Schlomo, if someone does it once they are significantly more likely to do it again, if you had to assume the risk would you hire someone with or without a DUI on their record? Judgemental? I guess, I just don't have a whole circle of friends and family who have DUIs like you and the others, doesn't make me better than you but proves I'm a little smarter with my personal life.

 

Wrong!! Most people who get a dui are not likely to get another one. Actually the reverse is true. It's the ones that have not received one who feel if they haven't been caught by now, then they probably won't get caught. So.... stop calling people Schlomo... whatever that is.... I was at Novartis and got a DUI and was allowed to stay on board. I also know HR people at Novo Nordisk and heard they will hire a person with a dui. I do believe most smaller companies have more risk so have stricter policies. It is a mistake that can easily happen. The laws are too strict-one drink and a 125 lb female will blow over the limit. Generally 5 years and you are in the clear.

 

I totally agree. I was with BMS. I got one many years ago--NOT proud of it--stupid mistake--had 3 drinks. I have learned a lesson, but I have NO drinking problem at all. In fact, I don't drink much. I just was caught. Many of the judgmental people on this board could EASILY have gotten one. The limits are lowered such that is is TOO easy for them to catch you. I learned. I do not have more than one beer and drive. Too much work and hassle. MOST do not get caught, but you are unlucky if you do. Good luck to all who have even one drink. Here in TX, they LOOK for people to pull over!

Anyone can get a DWI and should have if you have ever had a drink at a restaurant or friend's house and drove home. You can feel fine after 2 beers, but it is very easy to go over .08 regardless of how you feel. I was charged with a DWI while working for SA, and got off. The officers are witnesses one at a time- told two different stories, which judge caught, tried to give me refusal though i did blow- just no reading. The officers lied about me swerving on road and swaying and falling when I got out of the car. I guess they were banking on me not hiring a lawyer and he knew everything they did wrong, caught every lie under oath, and the video showed I was driving perfectly fine and I was standing (not falling) perfectly fine when I got out of car and did sobriety. So, I was exonerated, 5K later for lawyer fees and Interlock device. I would like to sue the state for just trying to get money and not to mention the emotional distress. I had to be disqualified from bonus, awards etc. until proven innocent. Isn't that nice, guilty until proven innocent. Found out the officer was getting paid double time for DWI duty and got a bonus if I were convicted. This is the state trying to get money!!!!!!

Leave person alone. It could happen to anyone. One drink can do it. I am sure you NEVER had a drink a physician dinner. You are so above doing anything like that. Get the plank out of your own eye! (part of a Bible verse if you ever read it)

 

I totally agree. The self righteous jerks on this board should wake up to reality. It truly can happen to anyone. The limits are WAY too low.

 

trying to bring limit down to .05 in Texas. That means 1/2 a beer for me. It is ridiculous. We all go to restaurants- have a drink or two at happy hour or dinner, and if you are alone, you drive. i agree there are real drunks out there, and when people are killed it is awful. But the .08 for the average person is not drunk. I was so mad I got charged, but at least I got off. If the officers were honest and really trying to save the citizens of the town I live in fine. These officers lied under oath, committed perjury, and were just trying to get bonuses. (true fact) Could care less about me and ruining my life for their gain. I am so glad the judge went off on them in court and scolded them for wasting his time. Their police chief was there, so hopefully they are fired! Lying under oath and perjury is a crime I thought. Leave OP alone
