Don't eat your heart out. I did since his CEO appointment, way back in 2000. He hasn't changed the company in any real positive (new and financially large, successful drugs) manner. That hamburger lady said it all,"where's the beef"?
Kevin did one smart thing in his tenure, buying Immunex. If not for us Amgen would be toast. Seattle and Bothell are the most productive research and PD sites, the Amgen TO old hands hate that but it is true. Expensive but worth it, the company needed new brains and TO has become a joke to the whole industry. They can never do to AWA what they did with ASF, they HAVE to keep us, so don't put up with any ATO crap. I don't.
First, take a look at the Immunex prospectus and one immediately sees a poor deal. Amgen gave Wyeth the whole house and furniture. Don't let sales figures fool you, half of everything in the U.S. and Canada go to Wyeth (now Pfizer). The rest? They get it all. The estimate of the actual profit for Amgen is about ten percent. Keep in mind, part of Enbrel's so-called growth is due to a 2% rise in the price of the drug.
Another arrogant Immunex puke. If you were that good you wouldn't have been sold out. Your days are numbered in that palace by the water, Kevin will drop you like a rock when he can sell it. Another half-billion plus to the bottom line to cover declining profits looks better every day!
AWA and Bothell the "best" sites, are you kidding? Bothell should count its lucky stars Freemont took a bullet. As for AWA, perhaps one of the most poorly run sites I have ever come across. The amount of waste there is unbelievable, but that is part of the Immunex culture, arrogance and a disdain for "corporate". Good point on the price increase...amazing how Amgen is "serving patients"...by raising prices to them, that's how. I guess we need fuel for the $40,000,000+ shinny new jet. Mr. Peacock...there is waste everywhere...look into headcount reduction. Rather fire the 20% that do 80% of the work, fire 30-40% of the deadwood to send a message. BTW, once the economy picks up, whenever that will be, good people will leave.
You posters are right on! I have been a shareholder since 1986. Of the three CEOs that have been here since the company was born, the present one, known as Kevin Sharer, is the poorest. Of course that is my opinion but I think his tenure backs me up, very adequately. People are now seeing what a waste the purchase of Immunex was/is. Paying 17 billion bucks for a one trick pony, is the poorest return we have on this investment. It appears to me that Kevin has very well adapted to, and improved upon the corporate cronyism. 80% of the shares are in the hands of the investment community and they apparently don't care if the company shares go up or down. I can't understand why they don't take an active role. Keep in mind that a public company is supposed to have the shareholders interest as the first order of business. Isn't ten years enough of going nowhere?
Good people are ALREADY leaving and have left. Because they are good, they get picked up no matter what the economy. Just an observation.
my sugesstion to everyone is: milk it like they do, try to emulate them and keep sailing unitl the boat sink, spend more time surfing the net and going to the gym, after all that is what they do
that is exactly what i did for a year..until i realized I was geting rusty and another year like that would simply wash off my skills. Hence now got a new better high paying job and saying good bye to amgen next month. would certainly miss the nice weather and nice gym
