The manager in that area is great. SM is in a good place right now due to co promote. I like it here, reps can run their own business, decent money and a future when others are downsizing. Call me a kool aid drinker but I am happy at this company.

Can anyone give me answers on what it is like here? What the products are like to sell? etc, been talking to a recruiter and I am not too sure about making the leap here.

I am having a hard time keeping up. I wanted to interview with SM, came here for insight and wow, this thread is harsh. Jealous divorcees, ass kissing managers and last month the pres deleting anything that had to do with his mistress who was sleeping around. This place is a soap opera! Maybe I will interview, I can get laid and never work.

I was a customer but after attending an event in the Midwest, no longer! I thought I was at an Avon awards show, OH MY GOD, will the uber super platinum with gold accent accounts stand up please, I wanted to throw up. Hmmm and the most difficult question of the day was which celebrities eyes are these, duh! BTW - your silicone filled products didn't get those results, botox did along with a lot of plastic surgery. BTW, did the mothers of the children's foreskins you used to develop your products sign consent forms? I think not . . .

Most people will post nasty things on here out of anger and that's not my intention with this post. My intention is to post the reality of what sales reps go through here.

This is a very difficult environment to work in and the turnover rate in 2010 was greater than 50%. I have been in sales for many years and I have never seen a sales force stressed out and unhappy like they are here. I hear many, many reps say that the company doesn't care about their people, all they care about is going public. We work on a monthly sales cycle with at least 32% growth built in. If you don't make at least 100% goal attainment you are considered a failure and like all of your hard work was for nothing. This is such a shame because the products are great and the actual job itself is great as well. If the working environment would improve the sales force retention rate would increase; if goals weren't so crazy people wouldn't feel chronic stress and would be happier staying in the job longer.

If I would have known the reality of the quality of life here I wouldn't have joined this sales force. That's not to say that some people do like working here because I'm sure some do. When you talk to some of the most successful reps they talk about how they miss out on the rest of their life, their childrens lives, because all they do is work because that's what is required to make it here. Sales results are valued more than your family, your personal time outside of normal business hours and your quality of life is never considered. I think most reps here would agree with what I'm saying here. I also think they would agree that they would love their job here if the goals would decrease to a normal level and work life balance could be restored. At the last meeting a presidents club winner was thanking her manager for all of her support and she referenced the 2am phone calls they have to get prepared for appointments. This is a primary example of the culture here and the lack of work life balance.

I hope so much that Joe Willis can make some changes here so employees will be happier and will stick around longer. We need change or people will continue to come and go.

The turnover rate is a concern - good luck!

The cost to hire a new employee ranges from 30 to 150% of their annual salary. It's unconscionable that such a huge investment is one that so many managers enter with little training, coaching, support or appreciation.

Who are you talking about being accountable?

the only ones held accountable are the reps, that is what all these posts have been about. If you screw your married boss you get a pat on the back, and a new job title. If you screw your married employee you get promoted. Managers get away with doing whatever they want without any consequence and reap the rewards from our hard work. If we don't make our numbers, we are working round the clock to prove we are worthy to work at the all mighty SM. Where is the justice?

For many years there has been speculations about the company either being sold or going public...any truth to it happening in 2011?

It's so funny to me that employees @ SM are still so bitter about people sleeping w/ married bosses, employees etc. Who really cares? At the end of the day, you have a job, right? Obviously someone needs to let it go and focus on the ridiculous goals. Go schlep some product already! That's what you get paid to go - who cares about the gossip.
