Hoping to get some honest feedback on the Ortho side of the business. Are the products compatable with competitors? Average salary and commisions. Pro's and Cons with company.
Thanks in advance for any information!

(only speaking about the big 5 companies (Smith Nephew, Biomet, Stryker, DePuy, Zimmer))
    -companies have good products.
-companies have talking points against each others products
-couple of companies are going through bad press w recalls
-all companies have gone through recall process and will again in the future
    -Sales commissions are going down
-price per implant is going down (what hospitals will pay)
-Total Joint Arthroplasty reimbursement is going down
-Most companies use a distributorship model
-To my knowledge only Stryker (and Synthes) have mostly direct sales reps
-If you interview w a distributor ask A LOT of questions about your financial responsibilities; have an attorney review your contract and non compete; keep in mind if you have no experience, and no relationships to bring to the table, you have very little bargaining power; you will probably want to form an LLC.
-You will work hard, and many of us have families regardless of what you may hear or think.
-Without experience you will probably not make what you want, but you can make a decent living (even though as factors mentioned above it is getting harder to do so)

-Just a few points that come to mind. Hope it helps

I'm also curious in DePuy Orthopaedics. What is the typical bag of products a rep would carry? I understand Hips and Knees are the main components, but what are some of the other products they carry? Since DePuy is organized differently (with Mitek, Codman, Spine, etc.), it seems like your bag is a bit more limited than other manufacturers.

Is there any DePuy reps who would be interested in explaining what types of products they are authorized to sell?

    Appreciate it. Thanks.

if you work for DePuy Orthopedics you sell hips, knees, shoulder (trauma will be gone next yr to Synthes).
If you work for DePuy Mitek you sell the sport medicine line
    etc...

this works the same for most of the big 5 companies. They all have different divisions. DePuy/JnJ I guess likes to keep the name of the company they bought.

Here's a point you missed--$1,000,000,000.00 in pending hip lawsuits. That's a billion if your mathmatically challenged. Depuy would be 4th on my list if I were having to choose...

actually I did address the issue of recalls.

btw, it's "if you're mathematically challenged"

Thx. BTW, how did you "address the issue of recalls"? Or rather, what smoke did they blow up your ass trying to diffuse it?

First of all I don't work for DePuy, second if you read my post it was related to all five companies, and what to look for and think about regarding this industry. You should concentrate more on your reading comprehension skills, and less on being a smartass.

I know you don't work for Depuy, but you sound like a good candidate.
