Doesn't exist here. I'm working my ass off every minute of every day, putting up with calls to and from RM, nights, weekends, holidays. Bonus payouts are a joke considering the amount of time and pressure. You cannot work here successfully if you have a spouse and or a family. Not fair. If you want to get a divorce, take a job here! it's guaranteed!

Couldn't agree more. I could be a manager, and female....maybe I am a rep and female. Maybe I am a manager and male...ahhh the joys of Anonymity!

I actually think that the quality of life has gotten better here. The quotas are REALLY high and and difficult to maintain which is very demotivating, but otherwise it's not as bad as it was in the last 2 years.

Last two replies are funny. Different funny, but funny. 2nd to last is comical. The one above is just laughable! If you can't make quota and bonus, it won't be "better" for very long!

The thread titel should be NO quality of life! Or quality of products!

How's your new National Sales Director? I was a previous SM employee and was wondering if anything has changed for the positive since JW and the new NSD is on board.

Nothing changed! Still high pressure selling of overpriced cosmetics to consumers who think money will fix their issues! Overbearing managers with no other interests in their sad lives. Last two days of the month and quarter are so much fun!

What is the average tenure of your reps to date?

I've heard that turnover is high.....is this true?

It's pretty high at all positions. The problem is the owners/investors want huge growth rates which equates to big quota's. Big quota's lead to high pressure from the top down. The products don't have good value for the price and it's hard to grow every month. The products are no worse or better than the competition, but this market segment is notorious for cut throat sales tactics. If you can find a real pharma job, I suggest you opt for that. This is not pharma. This is used car sales.

Q4 quota's are not makeable. I'm not working my butt off to make money for you managers and VP's while I get stuck on the damn phone for half the day 3 days a week! Leave us alone dammit! It's just not that important to me/us. I do a good job and work everyday but pushing me/us this hard is just offensive. Get a life and leave us alone. If you need huge growth rates, higher more reps you cheap skates!

I can see things haven't changed - I think about the pressure I was under with this job - it was intense. I worked my a** off, hit good numbers but the pressure was so great that I decided one day it wasn't worth it and the very last day of the month, I totally blew my manager off - busted my a** to hit my number instead of lingering on the phone with her for an hour at a time and instead chose to try to get orders and sell intros. I was canned the very next day - best thing that EVER happened to me. And yes, I did hit quota that month - but I think her self esteem was so wrecked, she went straight to HR (shocker) and decided it wasn't a good fit. Because I didn't kiss her a**. Up to that point, there was no documentation to show me the door, but that was OK because I was beyond fed up and ready to bounce. I thougt she was the only one that managed people that way, but it sounds like its the whole crew. Believe me people, there IS life beyond SM - I did learn what I will/will not tolerate in my professional life ever again! Life is good! And for you kool-aide drinkers out there, don't say it wasn't because I couldn't cut it with numbers - because that's not the case - I just didn't do what you did and play the game and drink the drink.

This is the worst job I've ever imagined. I can't get out because there just arent good pharma jobs in my area right now. My manager is an angry middle aged woman with nothing else in her life but work work work work work. Sad. Who could ever tolerate these RM's anyway? No wonder they have little else in their lives.

Sounds like her priorities are all messed up. Weak leadership causes this imbalance.

My RM is not that bad really. I have heard some of them are just off the deep end with themselves and their role as a RM. That's their problem in my view. I am happy with my work life balance and I really don't care what anybody thinks about it. I am happy with work and I am really happy with everything I have that is not work. Job is important but not even close to what is really important to me. I feel bad when I talk to some of the reps outside of our region who have one of the crazy RM's who seem to have nothing to go to except SkinMedica! They get flooded with stupid conference calls, emails, and phone calls almost every day in some form. Glad it's not us! Any guesses who it is?
