I was on waiting for a call lugging around a laptop and printed docs when another rep whipped out an iPad, swiped through a few pages, got the signature. Not making excuses, but jesus, i felt like i had on an old suit at a dance. How do we communicate this to marketing without sounding like whiners?

The IPADs are nice but they in no way have the data or MS Office features of a Tablet PC. I had one at my last company and it made entering calls a breeze. It was quick, had a great battery life, did not screw up and had great visuals. However, forget about Salesforce.com and their "reports" features. They suck. It took so long to load even one report that I could have taken a nap and the reports do not sort on anything that can help run a rep's business. It cannot even give you a good targeting report. I think management bought a bill of goods with these.

Here's why, an Iphone can get your company email instantly and is cheaper and a Tablet computer still has 100Xs the capabilites with the exception of being quick with the detail or video streaming process. So, if you want a lot of video presentations for your customers (but crap to NO sound) or need to detail from a screen, I say an IPAD can be great but it is not going to ever replace a good Tablet PC. I hate to think what companies are spending believing an IPAD will give us the same quality reports and business planning tools as a Tablet, while providing tracking and detailing/product info to customers. They don't.

In the end, an IPAD is like a cellphone. It's an electronic TOY and not really a true business tool (yet). Saleforce.com offers no business value to running a territory but certainly can give management more "pretty" things to look at. LOL

Let me add this: An IPAD can replace a detail aid and is much better than carrying a load of paper stuff. It cannot replace a good Tablet for running real business software applications not even with an external keyboard. Salesforce.com is a bill of goods and not that great for field employees to manage business. However, I think it is a GREAT babysitter. So, maybe now upper management can finally get rid of DMs and RDs and have a handful of regional sales directors manage people remotely.

Be thankful you don't have one, it's a useful tool to monitor reps location. Talk about privacy.l.

However, it is an amazing tool for e-detailing, very efficient and effective way to present to a doctor and get his attention! We are currently use i-pad air and it is light to carry and lightning fast to use!

We only care about your location when you give us a reason to look into it :)

Plus, iPads can be locked down to prevent turning off GPS, just as an FYI.

Also, putting a sticky note over the camera is pretty funny.
