Crazier than you can think

 

OK - 4 years later and now this post is similiar to the people who told Columbus the world was flat.

 

OK, I've read a number of posts, recent and older, about Masimo. I may be meeting with that company in the near future to discuss a field sales position. There's a lot of criticism about their product and their ethics. Having worked for some very high class, as well as, several sleazy companies in the past, and given I need a job in a very depressed market, I have a couple of questions and would appreciate straight answers, though what's posted is pretty straight forward.

1) the base thrown out there is about 75-80+. Accurate? Is this long term or does it phase out at some point in favor of straight commission?
2) Commissions up to 100K w/o disclosing whether that was set up on a draw as described on this site. So, with a 5K draw for 6 months, and a recoverable 5K draw beginning in month 7, is that accurate?
3) Do their products work? Some of their case studies speak very favorably about their technology. BS or accurate review?
4) Car allowance - what is it per month?
5) Insurance - what's the premiums per month? I'm paying $500 now for an individual policy with a fairly high deductible.

I'm going to take the advice and ask for rep and local customer references because that always tells the story. But, I can tell you, in my market with 9+% unemployment, there's not a lot going on. Many of us are repping for small manufactures on a straight commission basis, without expenses, without car allowance, without marketing support, and
even what some have described on this site may be better than what some of us are seeing now. Is this a 1 year opportunity? Can you earn 80K base plus at least 30K draw in the first 6 months? That ends up being a guarantee of 110K for 12 months which is far greater than the guarantee I have as a mfg rep.

If you need a job, take it. But then start looking right away. What people are saying above is true.

 

Look, 99% of what you've seen here IS correct. Some of the name-calling is certainly not necessary, but certainly heart-felt. It is VERY difficult to stay calm here and leave emotions out of the equation. Executives and management have indeed created not only a negative and demeaning environment, but also one that is in itself very angry and hostile.

The other fact of the matter is, we're all still here. We also need jobs, so we understand your distress and unease more than just a little. As someone above said, rightfully so, we DO need more people. We just hate to see others sucked into the mire we're trying to get out of.

Other than what my co-worker above says about continuing to look even after you take the job, probably the best advise anyone can give you is: 1) take anything your recruiter (or the Masimo internal recruiter) tells you with a huge grain of salt - there isn't anything about this place that is all rosy; 2) take the job, but save every little penny you are paid, seriously - you will either need it later to take care of yourself and family, or you will have to pay it back or face Joe Kiani's attorney in his trying to recover it.

 

Proof that Masimo DOES care about family! Joe's family! Stock down 35%, his compensation up 49%, with $587,050 to pay for first class travel and accommodations for his family when they travel with him on business.

If you have to take it don't stop looking. Even with income this place will suck the life out of you. Save all you make and don't take the recoverable draw. I have never seen favorable clinicals on hemoglobin products from Masimo.

Are people still quitting? I need a job. I don't have medical experience. Any suggestions?

Interesting rants here. When I read the press releases (even today), they appear to be taking connectivity and parameters to a new level. I can't sift through the polar opposites on this board and on their stock ticker.... All sizzle, no steak. Or are they an innovator?

 

Sp02 is Masimo's only steak. Everything else is sizzle (at best).

 

I work at Masimo as a sales rep and I recently became aware of a case where a mother delivered her child at 5am and internally bled out (unrecognized by staff) over the next 7 hours. She expired despite resuscitative efforts. Imagine if this were your wife, mother, sister, daughter. Would you want an added layer of protection vis-a-vi a noninvasive hemoglobin monitoring technology like SpHb watching over your hemoglobin levels in case the nurse/doctors can't? This case and many others are showing that we can do better than “routine vitals”, particularly in individuals who can decompensate due to blood loss. This recent example fuels my desire for continued improved patient monitoring and healthcare provider education to enhance patient safety through our technology.

 

You betcha I would like that added protection! BUT NOT Masimo!! NOT EVER! MASIMO SpHb DOES NOT WORK!! I did recently go in for a surgery and when the nurse in pre-op told me that she needed to hook me up to a monitor, I asked her what brand the monitor was. It was not a Masimo, and if it had been I would have told her that I would refuse surgery alltogether if they insisted on putting anything by Masimo on me.

 

Set spo2 is great. Spco is fantastic, sphb just doesn't provide enough value to justify the cost. There are some serious structural culture issues at Masimo that make it a very hard place to work but with that said they are not unethical or evil or fraudulent... They just need better more consistent leadership throughout.

The problem with Masimo is they never listen to the critics. It's always joes way and everyone is afraid to contradict him.

I wouldn't recommend anyone take a job at Masimo because of those issues. But that said, all the vitriol on this board really isn't reflective all the hard work and the Masimo team does.
