Skinmedica needs a culture change. Culture within a company is very difficult to change and requires some tough love. When Skinmedica branched out from being a cosmeceutical company to a pharmaceutical company way back they brought the pharmaceutical culture with them. This was in the hay day of pharmaceutical sales when everyone was making huge profits. This changed Skinmedica from the high class company that it once was to the profit driven company that it is today. The problem is that it doesn't work. Now the company is part of Allergan which is pharmaceutical. The managers and executives have been able to act in any way they deem appropriate without any counter balance from human resources. This has led to some poor behavior among some management staff. Allergan is having struggles of their own after losing their longtime CEO. Skinmedica change your culture from top down approach to a bottom up approach. Take care of your sales representatives in the field and listen to them. Hold managers accountable for how they help their sales representatives grow instead of managers who only promote themselves. Mangers who try to run a whole region by themselves will not grow the company in the long run they will only feed their own ego. Managers who train and nuture good representatives will grow the company ten fold. Hire a real human resource director and clean house. Someone with vision who will help the company grow not churn and burn through representatives.

That requires hiring real managers first! Ones that know how to identify and hire real sales people and not those that rely 100% on dinners, Summit's, seminars, peel events, expensive wines, and even dating, flirting, or getting free or discounted procedures themselves from doctors they are trying to get as customers. It really is out of control in some areas and it needs to be addressed.

When I was a representative I had an inside sales person fly up to my territory to "work with me" just to get Botox from one of my customers. We made a sales call and then she disappeared into a room and had botox done. This was when Botox was fairly new.

I didn't realize our esteemed RSM Patti was a phone rep at one time! That's definitely what she does all the time! Procedure after procedure after procedure! So unprofessional.

Well said! Skm managers are a joke! They manage through intimidation because they don't know how to coach, motivate and lead a team. They only know how to demotivate, micromanage, talk at you and change expectations daily. They need some Allergan management training now! I've never seen a worse group of managers. And... SAMs... Lol. You will never be at the level of an APC. Thanks for the great order but where's the strategy and tactics. Of course, leave that up to your TM. Classic skm... Push product in but don't have a clue how to do business development.

Please Allergan.... Change the skm managers at all levels before you begin to lose great reps.

    Wake up Allergan,
Take notice. It has been a mass exit of sales reps in the last month. Gee, could it be upper management. Please get a clue before all the great reps leave too. Check out how many people have left in the last few months. Intimidation at it's best. Do you not see what is happening right under your noise????????

What? Are you serious? But I thought I would make more bonus if I sell 15k more than I have in for the month even though the 15k only puts me at 80% for the month! Oh, I'll be closer to making my quarter by 15k? Oh really? So if I put the order in on July 31st, not only do I still miss July, but now I've taken an order that would get me off to a great start in August and shoved it up my own ass in July!! If I could manage my territory to hit the quarter and year and not every damn month, I would be able to do a much more consistent job and I wouldn't have to piss off 2 or 3 good customers every month by begging them to order crap they don't need until next month!! You wanna send a wake up call to management? That's the wake up call!! How stupid do they really think we are? I'm interviewing next week for a really good position with biotech. Money about the same, but at least I will be promoting real drugs that provide real treatment for sick patients. Not this fake ass shit that we sell to very sick patients. Sick in the head! If youth and health were in a bottle or a tube, you wouldn't need us! If this pisses any of you off, you're the weak minded idiots that are brainwashed into thinking this crap works!!

What does it mean when your RSM never answers her phone? She's either on the phone, in an office she has no business being in, at a dinner, at a peel event, at a Summit, or who knows what else! It's crazy that I can never reach my boss when I need her and sometimes it's a day or more before she calls me back. And she's almost NEVER in her office on Fridays!

Another one bites the dust, another one bites the dust, hey hey, another one bites the dust, hey, hey, hey, eyeyey. When is it going to end. Another one of my fellow colleges have fallen and to no fault of her own. Here we go again, another great rep forced out. I really do not know how much more the sales force can take. I'm done too, I finally can't take any more of this abuse and hostile environment. I am getting out of this place as soon as I can. I hope that everyone gets smart and gets out too. There is no home for anyone here. It is a horrible, horrible place to work and the senior management is a joke all the way to HR herself. So sad for me and all of the amazing reps that work here. We work hard and get absolutely no praise only humiliation when we don't make our ridiculous numbers at the end of the month.

Great reps are very fortunate to get away from this environment! How do these managers and directors sleep at night (CF & EB)?

I'm a former SKM/AGN employee who went by the book, and went above on beyond my "job description". When I started having problems with my manager who clearly had a problem with women in management (I was not) my HR department did NOTHING and actually turned it around on me. HR said he was within his right to treat my poorly and that California is an at will employer and I can leave if I wasn't happy. I love my job and the people I worked with and I would be damned if I was going to let them run me out. After several months and outward display of gender discrimination to the point other employees at the office noticed and commented, I called the Ethics Hotline. This only made things worse, not only did the local HR VP and Alleran VP of HR turn it around on me, I was threatened that if my allegations did not go in my favor my job would be at stake. General Counsel jumped in also threatening my job, 1 week later I was fired.

I have since filed a gender discrimination and retaliation complaint with the EEOC and hired an employment attorney. Three months after my termination Allergan contacted me asking if I would like to revisit the severance agreement they pulled as I didn't turn in my equipment/product within 24 hours. They reported the items stolen sending the local police to my home, needless to say I wasn't home and it would have been a civil issue anyway.

I would strongly suggest that anyone having this type of issue go through their chain of command, contact the Ethics Hotline and prepare themselves for termination and a fight. The way Allergan SkinMedica treat their employees is wrong and it will continue as long as we sit back allow this to happen. I for one, will not tolerate this behavior, it is against the law and I plan on proving that.

Wow! This sounds familiar. I'm in a similar discrimination situation except its not gender related.

Hr refuses to help. Mgt clearly is discriminating when they make one policy for me and don't hold everyone else to the same policy. I've been bullied this entire year for no reason at all.

I hate the mgt at SkinMedica. They are bullies and break every law possible. I'm sticking to my guns and I refuse to let them run me out. Refuse! I've been with agn for years and never had issues! Never! Skm comes along and the issues began.

The work life balance that agn always talks about doesn't exist on the skm side of the business. Skm could care less about your personal life or health.

All skm mgt needs to go starting with HR and Joe!

Unfortunately, it is only going to get worse. Once the wheels are in motion, you will be forced out one way or another. Do not let your guard down. Once you do, they come in like a sneaky snake and fire you. I too was bullied and harassed. I too went to HR and they didn't do anything to help me. I was held to different standards than the other reps on my team. Nobody else had to do what was required of me by my manager. It was extremely difficult to function once they beat me down so low. I really started to question my self worth. There is life after SKM. I am very happy now and I am in the top 10% of the sales force with my new company. I am treated with respect and I in turn respect my new manager. The one great lesson I learned is that I will never work for a company like SKM again. I will never allow another company to treat me they way they did. I am a seasoned, polished, and successful human being that should be treated with respect. I hope that you are looking for another job. Don't be surprised if HR calls and terminates your position because you do not have the necessary selling style that SKM is looking for. Yet, you had that style when they hired you but all of a sudden you no longer possess the skills necessary. Go figure!!! Nothing is going to change until the senior management team is eliminated. Do yourself a favor and just go look for another job. In the end you will be happier. Don't give them the opportunity to fire you first. I know exactly how you feel. I didn't do anything to deserve what happened to me either. Best of luck to you!

I'm so glad I checked out this board before interviewing. My God I already work 70 plus hours a week covering two states. Is there anything good in derm that doesn't work you to death now for zero money? God I hope as I haven't seen my family in 7 months!

Yes. There are derm companies that don't want reps working more than 40 or 50 hours per week. They have cultures in place that encourage family time and minimize travel and don't require being away over weekends unless very urgent. This shit ball company couldn't care less how many weekends you work, how many late nights after hosting events you stay out for, or how late the flights are we take to get home after full days. Oh, and try to take a vacation??? Hahahahaha! Never gonna happen. The only people who survive more than 15 months here have absolutely nothing else in their miserable lives requiring any of their attention. Those people we refer to in normal society as LOSERS! Dont be that one of those.

What do you consider zero money? How much do you make an hour?

Now that Skinmedica is part of Allergan maybe it would be a good time to revisit the overtime issue.
