Job or no Job?

I'm currently in the interviewing process for a sales position in KC healthcare. I really like the company and everything seems to be in line, but some of the posts/comments on this site are rather disturbing. There is a lot of doom and gloom in these threads and my concern is that I'm about to jump headfirst into a snake pit, so-to-speak.

What do you guys think I should do? Apparently there's some spin-off coming up and a lot of people are saying that the chopping block is coming. I definitely don't want to start a job only to be looking for a new one by December. What's the deal? Should I take the job if it's offered?

Serious comments only please. No potty-mouth trolls.

If you are looking for a long time career, look at other companies. Halyard has no new products and the existing product lines are decades old

This is still the place to be, Price has an excellent plan to right the ship, that is built around patient outcomes and customer satisfaction. He will bring an honest product and sales force to the market. Have faith brother, Price is in the house!

This fool is talking about I-FLOW, not the traditional KC Healthcare products.

The one thing u need in a company is trust. There is no trust in the leadership to the sales force or sales force to them. Look how many post there are. This is not just a few people complaining.

Sheesh that doesn't sound too good. It kind of sounds like I shouldn't take the damn job lol. I was a part of a spin-off years back for a company that I used to work for. It sounds like it was the same deal - no new products, just a different name. That didn't work out well for us. Is that what's honestly happening here? Someone had mentioned that up above, but is that the consensus or just one guy's opinion?

    Thanks.

If you make a decision to accept/decline a position based on what is posted on this bathroom wall, I question your intelligence.

You will never regret working for Kimbrrly Clark period. This is a very rough time, but some top talent like Price is stepping up to provide much needed leadership. That guy is pure magic when it comes to providing honest leadership. He believes in Gator Football, and developing character in the sales ranks, good luck and you are in good hands

Are you kidding!! When someone has to sell you on a company or leadership of a person you know this is a bad deal.

No offense, but this response seems artificial. Are you like his family member or something? After reading it I wasn't sure if he was working at Kimberly-Clark or running for office somewhere.

Besides, none of that really helps me. This Price guy might be all you're building him up to be, but if the culture at KC sucks then what's he worth? I need to know if it's a good job beyond the competency of the leadership there.

We have no clue as to what is going to happen in November. They can cut salaries, cut the company car, cut 401K match and profit sharing. They can make you buy your own medical insurance through Obamacare. They can end up in so much debt that new products or aquisitions are put on the back burner. they could decimate the salesforce, as they did in supplies, or a reorg and cut the salesforce in half. Or none of the above. All of our products are at least 10 years old- some even 20 years old. This is a fact. There are so many unknowns that I would be very hesitant to take a job here. For those of us here, it is a scary place. The only positive note is that our products are well respected. this being DH, RH and pain management. Are there product issues? Of course, what company doesn't have manufacturing problems, as we all make our stuff overseas and for as cheap as we can. And thy will be rebranding everything without the K-C name, as we will not be in K-C land anymore. Branding takes time and lots of money. Money they won't be paying you. Ask alot of questions and good luck with your decision.

Thank you kindly. This appears to be a much more credible answer than some of the other junk in here. Here's what I don't understand, though. You mentioned that the products are very old, but much of their saving grace is the fact that the KC name is highly regarded. That being said, why would KC rebrand everything to the spin-off brand? To be honest, I'm kind of leaning towards staying away from KC.

The incompetent management failed to think about rebranding because (1) trying to come up with a new name and what a dopey one it is and (2) they don't understand the medical device business. Do what you want to do but having been here 10 years, I would leave if I could. However, I am 51 years old and will ride it out

What I meant to say was that the products, although old, are well respected. Ask any clinician about the Ballard trachcare products, or the Mic-Key line of low profile tubes, as well as our TJ tubes (when available) and you will hear nothing but good things. The sad part is, after all these years, the K-C brand is almost non existent in the critical care areas, as clinicians still refer to the catheters as 'Ballards' and the buttons as "Mic-Keys". So rebranding won't tarnish the actual products. No matter what any paper company calls its tissues, people will always ask for a Kleenex. And with any luck, our customers will always ask for a Ballard or Mic-Key, no matter what the new branded product is called.

I agree with the above posts. This is a tough time to join the company. Leadership beyond Price is really poor and has delivered this mess on a silver platter. I don't think even Price can get us out of this mess, but I know he will try. This is a tough call for any new employee

This is a shit storm as long as current management is in place no other way to put it. Very very poor managers all divisions.

I am not sure that even Price can provide the leadership the company needs at this point

Look, there is a reason Tom is jettisoning this company. No one gets rid of a growing, successfull, money making, cutting edge division. After all these years, he finally took a look and did noot like what he saw. They are forcing retirement on Joanne, which is a good thing since in the end, we floundered on her watch.

This may open up an opportunity for Price to bring his message of honesty and customer focus to the sales org. Joanne just did not get it done. In Price we trust!
