Where did you move on to? Base salary? Bonus? And company culture? Is the grass really greener?

Former Rep here. I jumped ship. While working as a Rep I did fake a lot of calls. Used my 'spare' time to complete a doctorate in civil engineering at FAU. My lifelong dream was to design roads and bridges. Now I do in Florida. Salary with my consulting fees and base is $400,000 plus or minus $20k. Live well as no state income tax and homestead lowers real estate tax. New home on intercoastal is so much better than the apartment in Long Island. What I got from my Rep days is the skillset of selling which I have applied to my consulting business. I am a confident BS'er if you know what I mean.

Nice to read a success story. Forest prepared you. As a DM I believe with your skills you would have made you a great Rep if you stayed. Probably have made as much if you made DM. Oh well enjoy Florida._

Hahaha. Funny troll. I know what DMs make. If you became a DM 10+ years ago then your base is probably pretty nice depending on if your reps made you successful. If you're a new DM, then I know for sure tenured territory reps that have a good track record make more in base.

But lol, $400k isn't even close. Now that's a funny troll

As a senior DM I can attest that $400K is in the ballpark for one who has a good team of reps - I live well off the fruits of 21 reps who actually make honest calls and I have seniority and will never lose my job. Life is great and I don't need a PHd in Civil enginering to earn a good living.

Funny, I was in the same position just 4 years ago and today I work 2 jobs to make the mortgage. Do not get too cocky or comfortable, You will be managing a volume shoe store in no time. Fool.

Thank you. Yes VERY TRUE. I am thankful for a great team of reps. I never take them for granted. I treat them well and give them a personal bonus out of my large bonus checks every year. If the roof crashes in I at least know they were treated well and I will move to sunny Florida where taxes are low, living is easy and live off my savings. That is if the wife retires.

I got a severance package, a new job already that pays more, and a happier life.

I am lucky. No situation is absolute, but if you invested is a good education (not playing DII ball on scholarship at Waterloo State) and have professional experience (not Enterprise or copiers) other than Actavis/Forest, you will be just fine. Make your Actavis/Forest experience just one piece of your overall business and marketing skill set.

If you haven't invested in yourself outside this "combined company" (which will probably be sold to someone else as soon as BS finds an appropriate buyer, if it hasn't already been informally agreed on at a chance 'dinner' between CEOs), you might find it tougher out there.

    Good luck to all.

great post. I luv to hear about life after Forest and Actavis. Yes as a Manager at this company. I KNOW WE WILL GET SHAFTED with the next purchase. I strongly suggest to my reps that they get advanced degreesin some field where they can make serious money. Several have taken my advice and are now MDs and one is even a SURGEON. Making $650k a year. Beats making fake calls.

And I got canned at Commack and now have a newspaper route and start at 4 AM.

I did this as a kid in the 70s. I hope the tips are good this week.

Here's Forest in a nutshell. If you are on the management track, it's one of the best places to be. Put in good numbers and you can parlay that into a management position quickly. Half the managers here are in their early 30's. If you don't want to be a manager then it's a horrible place to work. Imagine working for a 30yo manager who is terrified of his/her RD. Whatever the RD says goes. That's way Forest has one of the highest rep turnover rates in Pharma. It's why Forest has never needed layoffs. Look at what happened with the hospital launch team. It was a bloodbath.

Former rep, you got it. I found that the reps who had decent numbers and had DMs who effectively were their advocates and sponsors were the ones who moved into management. I pissed off my DM early on and he never advocated or helped me. Also saw several young women 'work' their DMs and get moved into DM slots real quick. When I saw this I quit last June. Now a high school bio teacher on lunch checking c-f.

Bingo! If you look at a vast majority of the reps let go recently they were not the newer ones, they were longer-timers 3+ years (that is longer in Forest longevity) who were fine being foot soldiers. Not that they are bad sales people. Some I know were very good. They were just more expensive anymore than was needed. There is only so much more product that can be pushed in some markets.

All you need is the young and the inexperienced. Truthfully, most of them will be gone in 2-3 years anyway on their own. No severance, stock options vesting, no 401(k) match contributed of any note, no families on the insurance plans. Think about it. Cheap in cheap out. Do as we say. Be happy you're here, it's an improvement over Enterprise. It's Pharma!!! Push, push, push.

What a pay cut! Why didn't you move into another pharma company?

As a high school bio teacher my base is $73k. That's working roughly 9 months a year and 6 hrs a day. I also get a good pension full medical and 24 sick days. As I have virtually zero seniority I can get canned at end of school year. So I have to be careful. But on balance not a bad job.
