44 is more than I realized. Yet Steve Seger is still here. That makes sense. Just like the good old days at Wright. Thankfully I was out of the office Monday for the town hall. The spin would have made me nauseous.

19 people laid off. Some folks love the drama and exaggerate everything. Not that it makes it any easier for one of the 19 (some great people laid off while some morons left on payroll).

44 will be the number if sales do not improve.

It may have been 19 that day, but it's already more than that of you consider the 8-10 that were let go in the few weeks/months before a couple of weeks ago. And odds are its not over the targets for 2015 are wishful thinking at best. And even then they would only get us to 50% bonus. This just isn't working and our parents to the east won't care why.

No real secret to fixing the problem! Just need effective leadership and get rid if all the nepotism and bullshit artist. If you can't sell then go to management. If your too tired to sell go to management. Ect Ect Ect. Pretty soon your management team is full of folks that think what was effective 10 years ago in the field is still effective today. HELLO- IT "AINT" working out!!!!

Odds TD keeps his job? Or that MPO even exists for much longer? It's not like ortho recon is a growth area to start with and these targets are insane. Agree with above. China isn't happy, don't see them getting happy, and think there's a good chance they know they made a bad deal, will blame failure on the US, save whatever face they can, sell out and cut their losses.

just curious if microport added anything to the wright medical recon bag? i left wright about 7 years ago and remember the recon portfolio to be pretty bare bones compared to competitors

Unlikely TD will be around by mid year.

    It'll take a miracle.

TD is a legend in his own mind. His list of accomplishments in the industry couldn't fill a matchbook. Sadly he is cut from the same cloth as a number of people in his position at other failing companies. Politicians who gamed the system, screwed good people along the way, never had a clue, and will still walk away with a fistful of equity for his "troubles". Look around the industry for the companies really doing well and you'll see leaders who understand the business. There is a reason MP (and WMGI) is failing and made a number of failed deals and hires in the past few years. MP would gut the place and put some real players in there if they have any hope to win. Otherwise, shut the business down before TD and the 'boys' run it into the ground.

The 'boys' at MPO and WMT should be poster boys for the definition of insanity. I guess BP did something right though. He found a buyer stupid enough to believe these people could be successful.

Oh haters going to hate. Relax. Medial Pivot is great, new marketing great, education great, superpath great.

Medial pivot is a good design but unfortunately it's a niche product bc wright medical never invested in the product. I had a director of knee marketing tell me that they didn't pursue crosslinked poly bc of the cost associated with it. I left shortly after this. They have good bones for a knee rev system but have never invested in or updated the system to be competitive. Hard to convert a busy knee surgeon with just a niche primary knee. I heard you guys lost one of your biggest design surgeons in the south.

Super path is a good technique but will always be limit due to the fact you have to use Wright implants. Modular necks have taken a beating. Now trunion wear is a hot topic. Are you guys still using the titanium stem, cocr neck, titanium sleeve, cocr head setup? If a surgeon wants to do anterior approach they can use Depuy, Stryker, Biomet, Zimmer, Exactech, DJO, medacta, smith and nephew.

I worked for wright but realized Wright/microport will always be a small niche player. With the way health care is going, how do they expect to compete with the large companies and contracts that are coming. GPOs don't care about the medial pivot story or the unproven benefits of modular necks. Surgeons are now starting to care less about product "stories" and more about price, complete system, on contract, and service.

Nailed it. Especially for MPO and our products. Can't land the contracts that were expected with Implant Partners and it is only getting harder to compete for business with individual surgeons. That won't change. Add to it that ortho recon is not a high growth area to begin with and its a disaster. It's unfortunate but that doesn't make it any less true.

It's not wright anymore and that's the best thing that could have happened to Ortho Recon. MPO is making good moves and investing in the business.

Medial pivot is getting the attention it deserves now. Revision is coming and it's going to be sweet. You don't need xlink poly (in knee) it's just an up charge the industry created a few years ago

Superpath is arguably the best way to do a total hip. The patients do great with fast recovery very little pain. The implants are proven established products built in the USA. You don't need modular necks to do superpath either. That whole point is mute.

I like Microport and I think they are poised to do big things in the next couple years.

While Xlink poly in the knee is somewhat newer it has become the industry standard.. Patients receiving total knees are younger and more active. There are a lot of studies showing reduced wear and good survivorship with Xlink poly in the knee. There are actually more published articles supporting Xlink poly in the knee than studies supporting the medial pivot knee. This is why all the big companies offer Xlink poly for the knee. By the last poster's logic, no one should be using ceramic heads or highly crosslinked poly in the hip, navigation for total joints, medial pivot knees, or a lot of other technologies. Wright/MPO not offering it is not based on science or surgeon demand but a financial one. This is just one example of why they will continue to be small time.
