Correct,he is right. Most companies in this industry don't offer a salary, commission only after a set (usually 6 month period). I know this because I worth for one of these companies.

I have an upcoming interview and wanted to see what starting salary and car allowance would be.

Also, what is competition like with the catheter industry?

What happens when a patient is out of network. Does 180 triage it out or do they push it back to the office and say figure it out

Apparently they send it to another company- but they only keep intermittent catheter patients. They ship everyone else away. I considered interviewing for a position but spoke to someone from Sumbius a company 180 purchased. Apparently all the reps jumped ship. That says something

Nobody selling intermittent catheters is a device rep. This is a hilarious joke. You're a delivery driver/caterer providing cookies/cupcakes/coffee for scripts!!! It's basically a popularity contest.... Let's just be honest with ourselves and call it what it is.

Very unethical company. They switch patients off clinically superior catheters to cheap, stiff, and rough ConvaTec or Cure catheters so they can make more profit. They don't care about their customers/patients they only care about $.

^^^ IC isn't pharma...I bet most of these cath reps make more than all you douches in scrubs that think they are cool as fuck hanging around the OR acting like doctors. You are the joke that everyone rolls their eyes at...

Also someone who knows 180's game plan as well. I see you didn't try to correct them. The manufactures tolerate 180 now because they have to. They're waiting for the chance to do what they can to hurt 180s bottom line, and that day isn't too far off. People are now seeing them for the dishonest organization they are. The gig is almost up. Upper management at 180 is in way over their head. Fear and intimidation can only get them so far. They're leading a company where moral is always at a low, people are afraid to speak up, so they just put on a smiley face to survive and fool them. If not for the talent in the field, they'd be a c+ version of CCS.

As for the minor leaguer above who thinks he's in the majors, maybe 2 of the reps at 180 make what an average device rep pulls in, possibly more. Lots not fool anyone though, they're anomalies. And you know what, that's okay, we all start somewhere and have families to support. Success is success, no matter where you work, I'd love to see all talented people succeed. Could you show your insecurities anymore by attacking a truthful poignant post? You're obviously playing the game "mine is bigger than yours". I don't see people rolling around in scrubs because it's fun, or the cool thing to do. It's mandated because you're actually doing something in a procedure setting. Sorry you're mad because the MA you have to beg for referrals wasn't happy with her coffee.

I know 180 tries to brainwash everyone that working there is as good as it gets, it's far from it. I feel bad to the people suffering from Stockholm syndrome.

I would not trust any company that is owned of affiliated with Convatec. Convatec has actually been paying their ostomy representatives about 125.00 for every ostomy patient they send to 180 medical for their first shipment of ostomy supplies. The kicker is that they (180 medical) are not even selling competitive ostomy products (pouches and wafers) from other manufactures such as Hollister or Coloplast, so it is a win win for Convatec. They make money from 180 and have a nice little stream of life time ostomy patients. That is where the money is in ostomy; the retail segment.

Apparently the convatec legal team just announced this $125 kick back to the convatec representaives is illegal so that party is over. I am thinking the competitors heard of this little arrangement and took action. Illegal and unethical. Think about this before you join either of these companies. Hard to believe that the managers did not know that this was off color for over the past year. Not the brightest group but probably because they have fired all the smart ones that understand the law and ethics.

Do not jump in bed with any company owned by Convatec. They, convatec, has been paying their ostomy representatives about $125 dollars for each patient name they could provide to 180 medical, who in turn starts ordering their ostomy supplies from 180 medical. Since convatec owns 180 this kick back scheme they have been running for over a year now, was just now determined to be illegal. How on earth did rank and file managers ever think this was the right ethical thing to do, or not know this was illegal when first implemented over a year ago. For that matter, who is in charge at the top of the chain that did not know any better.

I am guessing a competitor found out what was really going on as 180 medical was not even selling ostomy wafers and pouches from any of the competitor ostomy manufacturers, just Convatec products. Wonder what kind of a fine they will have to pay. How do people sleep at night? Most money made off of ostomy patients is not made through selling product into the hospital, but made when patients continue to order retail.
Just saying, not to be trusted.

    Amen.

Dealer reps run around all day spreading rumors about manufacturer's and other dealers, giving inducements to MA's and offices managers, bringing in wheelchair ambassadors for Sympathy Appeals, handing out Rx order forms with questions/diagnosis fields to upsell patients after 6 months into more profitable billing codes, etc. Regards to 180, with the convatec merger they are just pushing that generic line of garbage for maximum profits. Conflict of interest ? You Bet. Wake up goverment.

The government needs to shut the industry down.

When sales people are collecting Rx's for compensation......usually does not bode well for the long-term. Talk to a Pharma Rep or any Medical rep in general, collecting patient information via a Rx, for sales purposes is ILLEGAL.

Yes, it is illegal for pharma and device reps to collect PHI (protected health information). It's illegal for them to do so because they are not a covered entity, they are manufacturers. There's a big difference between the two. http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/privacy/hipaa/understanding/coveredentities/usesanddisclosuresfortpo.html.

Dealers/Providers are covered entities, along with their employees, and they are allowed to see, collect and utilize PHI when necessary (discussing patient outcomes, dispensing an Rx, etc.). Dealers/Providers are Medicare accredited healthcare providers and manufacturers (pharma and/or device) are not. Two entirely different entities with different roles in the Rx spectrum. Device/pharma reps detail the product in hopes when the Rx is sent to a provider it is branded with their product.

It is very illegal for Coloplast and Bard to collect Rx's and it will come to a stop very soon, just as it did with Hollister and Convatec in ostomy in late 2014. Do you think that Hollister made the decision to essentially stop collecting Rx's in the form of Secure Start because it was a wise business decision? No. They stopped because the OIG said enough is a enough. Manufacturers cannot and should not collect Rx's. Can you imagine a physician writing an Rx for a patient and sending the order to Merck or Pfizer? It's only generally accepted now because Coloplast and Bard were losing orders hand over fist to Cure and PECO, so they caused mass confusion for MAs (not a difficult thing to do, BTW).

Can you imagine a physician writing a script for a clinically-differentiated Merck or Pfizer RX only to have a pharmacy disregard the script as written and convince the patient into a less clinically effective RX because of the profit margin?

Dealers are scum. Routinely lying and misleading patients into cheaper, less clinically effective products so that they can make more profit off of their illness/pain.

I've been in a dealer's office where I witnessed a Customer Service Manager tell her representative to tell the patient that their insurance doesn't cover a certain company's product. This wasn't the case at all (the company was a competitor in this instance). Falt out lies.

Patients need to be educated about their rights to the products that they/their clinicians have deemed medically necessary. If they don't stand up for themselves, no one will.
