b/c charging some elderly person on a fixed income several hundreds of dollars for a pee test is unethical. All of these companies should be investigated for unfair practices and over billing medicare and medicaid.

    What goes around comes around.

Looks like this guy is going down. We heard OIG is investigating Millennium labs for fraudulent billing practices along with John Doe 1-10,000 whom are all their customers. Could get really nasty.

Correct. You cannot unbundle analytes for a single test.

Many labs have made this mistake early in their life cycle, when they are run by people who have no lab or billing experience.

Most of them make the mistake on GC or LC testing. The bill multiple units for the analytes tested for, even though it is one single sample prep, and one single analytical run.

Doing this on a point of care cup that costs 5 bucks, and having the doctors billing multiple units is going to be very expensive for these labs, and for the doctors...

Hope the "loan" from the Federal government was worth it. Triple damages can be levied against these people, especially since it was done with malice aforethought.

"Many physicians conduct drug testing at point of care; including Calloway’s customers. At the heart of this issue is Millennium’s position that physicians should be fairly reimbursed for performing drug testing at their point of care vs. the position that Calloway takes – that they should not,” Mr. Appel stated. "

The above is a quote from Millennium's rebuttal: The point of Care Device costs an average of $7 and was billed for on average $300 without factoring staff time and billing time this is a 4200% profit margin with staff time and billing time the total costs is about $20.. this is a 1500% profit margin.. How is this a fair reimbursement for insurance companies that are funded by tax payers, companies and private citizens?
I need to become a pain management physician if the "fair" reimbursements are like this, and for coming up with this program you are nominated for CEO of the year! WOW, I have just lost all faith / hope for healthcare in America...

Nice statement. You completely left off the part that as a company Millennium advocates physicians taking advantage of the system to profit $300 (1500%) and then the company itself takes advantage of a billing practice that allows them to illegally bill to collect $300 - 400 (500% profit) doubling the cost not only to the patient, the insurance company, but back to the tax paying citizen.

I have heard of a number of high level execs moving on as it is now clear that Millennium is not a candidate for a takeover at this time. The company is expected to survive, but it will not grow much from now on, and long-term prospects appear bleak.

HAAHAAHAA! Dear Lord, this is going to be great comedy as the Grand Jury does their work. I would love to hold up a $5 piss cup, and the spreadsheet from your sales team showing how much a doctor can make with it, to a jury of taxpayers. You can claim the doctors knew what they were doing, but it's based on your "educational material". I can't wait for a civil suite from a large healthcare group to be filed against you. Perhaps it already has?.?.?.?......

This guy is a joke. He is a blight on the lab business and he thinks physicians are dumb. I heard him say it.

Took longer than we expected, but...

"A group of owners, including Slattery, would provide most of the funds, while TA Associates would pay a minority share, they said. The current equity holders would provide funds to Millennium so it can pay the settlement reached this week with the U.S. Department of Justice over allegations of overbilling a federal health-care program and other matters, said the people."

Private insurance is soon to be at your doorstep with torches and pitchforks. When they arrive, they will not knock to be let inside. They will not want to fund the airplane museum, I'm sure.
