Extra Week of Vacation in Exchange For Pension

    Pensions are useless to those of us who grow intellectually and move on to better opportunities. Pensions are for worker bees who drone on for 25+ years at the same company. A truly sad and pitiful way of life.

    I can't resist commenting to the smug / arrogant ass about the sad and pitiful worker bees that cling to his/her pension. I spent my entire 34 year professional career at Lilly. Through hard work, dedication and flexibility in accepting assignments at non-Indianapolis locations, my family and I accepted 6 assignments requiring relocation, plus temporary assignments in Puerto Rico and sales. This allowed me to learn much more about the business units with assignments with Elizabeth Arden, Elanco, Medical Devices, European Operations, Puerto Rico manufacturing, Emerging Markets manufacturing, and working with corporate executives.

    I leveraged this knowledge through a series of promotions, climbing to the level of Senior Director and performing at that level in three different assignments until my retirement.

    I retired at age 57 and was proud that my compensation paid off our mortgage on a very nice home, funded university educations for our three kids (two at private colleges), as well as graduate degrees for each of the three. What else? Two weddings paid for, a wonderful second home, international travel, a 401k valued at more than $2 mio and Lilly stock worth more than $3 mio.

    So take your smug attitude elsewhere and don't infect employees that still believe in the mission and values of the company and are willing to spend most / all of their careers at Lilly.

    Pensions are for worker bees who actually do the work in the company instead of politicking all day.

    Ya'll need to learn this company is built on the backs of people who leave work with sour feet and muscles.

    You do realize that you are the exception and not the rule right? Today, your path is not realistic to anyone. You are so far removed from reality it is not even worth further comment. As such, your attitude is the smug one. Now, we would hire 3 Chinese and 2 Indians to do what you did at a third of the cost. Wake up loser.

    What? Is this true? What about those of us that retired a couple of years ago? Is Lily taking away our pension too? Is this something that is going forward ?

    Lilly used to be a good place to work however in the last ten to fifteen it has changed significantly for the worse people! Wake up!

    If you think you will achieve the status of the privileged above poster you are delusional. An extra week vacation in July is nice but in relation to long term benefits that have been taken away over time, Lilly is no longer nearly as desirable of a company as it once was. Furthermore, culture is toxic and employers tend not to get promoted on their ability to do their job but rather, “manage up” and kiss up to higher management. If you want to be rewarded on your ability to do the job you are tasked or paid to do, run like hell from this company! RUN!

    For f**cks sake, educate yourself. And not on cafepharma. Pension changes affect current employees. All Lilly could change for you is to offer a buyout or raise your health insurance premium if you aren’t Medicare eligible. The Lilly pension is fully funded so there really is no benefit for them to sell it off.

    If they didn’t dump the pension last year after unloading all the VERP, then why do it now? I’m pissed they haven’t killed it since since the risk of doing so forced people to take the offer.

    I’ve always assumed pensions would be gone by the time I retire anyway, so if they want to give me an extra week in July, I’ll gladly take it.

    This retired arrogant jackass is probably at LEAST an octogenarian since (yes, only white men had this level of compensation)..
    HE said he worked for Elizabeth Arden which was spun off decades ago. What planet are you living on not to realize how much has changed for “young”people (under 50)? Your lack of understanding is NOT surprising as is your braggart ways.

    I VERP’d in Dec 2017 at age 49 with a little over a year’s salary as my severance, plus my full pension, AND a decent nest egg sitting in my 401k account that will continue to collect interest for the next 8+ years. I’m now a SAHM to my sons - one in HS and the other in elementary school. My youngest was only 7 when I retired. I never worked a weekend or holiday since 1990. I started in service (when Lilly still had in-house janitors) and left with my Master’s that Lilly paid for (and also part of my undergrad). I worked up from the lowest level (called a Level 11 back in 1990) to a Consultant (P4 when I left). Yeah, my life is just pitiful.
