More I experience it, better I understand that the Field managers (District Managers) at Vanda have no class, no quality, no skills, no talent, no competencies, probably no training, and no specific guidance. They are some of the most inept, idiots, and brain-dead group of people put in the position of managing sales teams, and rep development roles whereas they completely lack in the basic management fundamentals. It seems they were never taught (or they failed to learn) to appreciate Top performers. Celebrate the success their team members achieve, showcase their accomplishments. These managers all seem extremely self-centered idiots caring only about covering their own Asses. The quality of these managers has started to totally amaze me. I am sure most of you will agree with these thoughts?

Why Vanda doesn't seek "360 Feedback" like most specialty companies to help develop their management team? 360 Feedback is totally anonymous, where all Direct Reports provide Honest and Candid feedback on some of the most relevant competencies for the role being evaluated. This Feedback tells the higher management where lies the biggest weakness among their first line management and what kind of development/training they should receive in order to be effective Leaders.

Rep development..... no such thing at Vanda, unlike any real pharma company. managers are told to keep reps focused on the obtaining of prescriptions, no matter what method needed. Reps are otherwise regarded as slaves to be returned to their quarters at the end of the day unless a spreadsheet is needed by the classless GP. Development of reps is forbidden by management

7 hours since OP posted and 80 views. representatives are not happy at Vanda. that is probably a record as Vanda only has 115 reps but DC employees are on here too since they hate top management as bad or more than the field.

Now it is about 15 hours and this post has 124+ views already. This speaks volumes about the quality Vanda managers have. Sad situation....

Amen. I do the bare minimum for the POS company. Respect reps and reward them instead of beating them down and maybe you will see that same motivation we had when hired last year.

Valid point: Companies that credit rep performance and reward them for their hard work receive the enhanced productivity from their reps.

It's because they know what they will hear. it's the fear of the KNOWN that prevents them from seeking 360. Reps will take the management team to the cleaners....

This is not limited to NE - this trend is nationwide - I have friends on the east and west coasts and everyone is equally disgusted with the quality of first line managers.

Some of us are fresh out of college and new to pharma business - we have learned lot more from our mentors who are reps than managers.now that is a proof.

That is because managers are supposed to be coaches that assist you and also let you focus on your job (compliantly). But here at vanda, mihales and GP want them including Tom to and the worthless regional mgrs to just beat you senseless and bombard you with spreadsheets to fill out while demanding sales at all costs, compliance means nothing. All companies have bad managers. At Vanda they all are bad, we purged the good mgrs

No kidding. They keep bringing out different versions of the spreadsheets just to quadruple our efforts in reporting the same stuff over and over.

A friend of mine works for Pfizer where managers have to prove their skills consistently or they are let go or reduced to a rep position without hesitation. This pushes managers to be the best they can be. There are numerous checks and balances to track their performance. It seems Vanda takes a pride in employing some of the rejects from AZ, Otsuka, etc.

Major pharma companies want 2-5 years of pharma sales experience. Gain it at Vanda and leave. That's my goal...

Enterprise is actually known for excellent training and development. programs. They could teach Vanda a few things.
