We will be experiencing layoffs in Ophthalmology, and I'm wondering if anyone can share what the severance package has been looking like recently? Especially curious for employees that have been with the company for approximately 5 or 6 months, there were a bunch of us hired around that time. Thank you!

Does the severance matter? You have lost your job and in many cases productive people will be gone and the ass kissers will stay. Stinking leadership. No one is even worth being called a leader because no one will make any effort to correct any wrong as long as it does not affect them. Anyone who appears strong or knows a lot will be perceived as a threat. Do everything possible to be not perceived in that manner because when you are out, you will wonder that I supported the team, was productive and never tried to kick anyone out, yet I am on the receiving end. Not even half a person who you perceived as a friend will act as one to save their own behinds. The leadership is full of babies who cannot even contemplate supporting or standing up against something wrong as long as the rest of the idiots are in it. The leadership has no stand out real qualities. They just look around for direction and flow whichever way is comfortable. All they do is talk and talk BS without working.

All true, the company is a disgrace and embarrassment to all Management principles. ABLs and RMs are literally the biggest babies I've ever encountered. Incredibly hubris it could actually be Dilbert comic strip. These guys must dream to be Micheal Scott at Dunder-Mifflin.

Across the organization, the managers are quiet and HR caters only to the very senior leadership who are babies. Extremely bad managers with no spine, no commitment, no strength to support the right person. Hiring is a joke. My advice to anyone wanting to get hired here is come with no experience, kiss ass to the extreme and cater to the appointed god/gods in your group. You need it even have the slightest understanding of the job. All you need to do is be an actor. Managers and their managers are well equipped in showing HR and idiotic senior leadership what they want to show. No one knows or cares about the work and they go along with it. There is no questioning of practices and outcomes. More needs to be done for reputation. This place has a falling reputation with no way up.

Law firms and consulting agencies charge unbelievable amounts of money to identify people who will be given the severance package. Almost all the time, they get it wrong and impact people who should not be impacted in three quarters of the times. No human being is of value. Not the one who has the job and not the one who has received severance. The practices are incorrect and they use algorithms that are not fully understood or include all the touch points based on primitive selections. These firms are chosen so the company can absolve themselves of wrongdoing but in reality that is not true. The company cannot absolve itself and employees who are sure of themselves can topple this tower of cards with an appropriate lawyer and only for these reasons the severance package is good. They know they lack integrity and usually choose to threaten an employee with the severance package. The firms engaging in these practices need to have good relations with large companies so they do not go out of business and even though their algorithm may point to certain people, it all will depend how the algorithms are manipulated to take care of the people with power. It is one of the most derogatory methods due to “ I kiss your butt and you kiss mine” and we get to keep our jobs. Let’s dangle a few extra carrots in the severance package so we are left alone.

What do you mean by great?
You lose 40% in taxes. The amount you receive is not what is on paper. Unless you are way way higher up, it will not sustain you long.

When will draining the swamp really start? The junk that is here rotting since decades who should have been fired years back but continued because no one cared how good or bad they are. Everyone was on an extreme high due to blockbuster drugs and idiots made their life here. Review all global heads, VPs and Executive Directors in Cardio and Oncology. HR and MDs stink in these areas.

In oncology we got 2 weeks for every year of service. The minimum was 14 weeks. It’s a pretty generous package. They connect you with a recruiting firm that helps you with your resume, Linked In account and interview training. They were extremely helpful. You also got your final bonus paid out at a minimum of 100%. Anyone bitching about the Novartis package is an entitled idiot. They pay for your healthcare for a full year too. Good luck. If you’re lucky you’ll get a new job quickly and get to double dip. They pay your severance out in a lump sum. Definitely don’t leave before the lay-off. It’s well worth a try to get the package.

Hey HR - thank you. Isn’t there any confidentiality associated with your posting here? Are you sure this is what everyone received? Unless you are HR or an idiot (get it, giving back what you are calling others) manager writing this nonsense, you are either smoking something or violating confidentiality by mentioning what everyone receives. This is how degraded this place has become. Get rid of these termites and don’t give them any severance.

Executive Director of Oncology Clinical Trials needs to be kicked out. That crazy woman and the HR head are in cahoots with each other. Both are pretty much useless and stinking the place up for decades.

This is garbage. No one is supposed to discuss their package. The recruiting firm is pure crap. They treat you like an imbecile and disrespect you. Their virtual job finder stinks. Another one of those digital fancies that is crap. This is how so many different orgs get business and earn a living even if it is based on someone’s life, career and job. Just imagine how many different companies NVS hired to ruin a person’s life and save the behinds of the real junk. Consulting firms, lawyers, crappy recruiting company. NVS gives jobs to all these outside companies who reap profits off our own people.

Yup - don’t know about field personnel, probably get a call. This is how dignity is stripped in house. HR has their best business casual attire as they are in assigned rooms. They even assign a moron who is close to your culture to do the talking so you are comfortable. Who cares if a tree is talking to you at this time? Your manager’s body language is evident in the week prior to it. Managers are on silent mode and mostly stay away from you. You have no clue so you are jabbering away and talking like nothing is wrong. You see the strange looks from some but overlook that just like you overlook so many negative things at work. Remember that these managers thought their jobs were on the line but now are driving the damn boat as they are relieved that it is the person reporting to them. You are sent a meeting invite with no subject and no text at 5 pm the day before. You have a sudden sinking feeling. Your house, your children, your life is flashing and you are wondering how will I manage if this is real. You try to call your manager who has slipped away and the manager’s manager. They don’t respond. Is this the family you were told you belong to? Where is this family when you need them? You try reaching out to others. No one responds. You panic. You hardly eat dinner. This can’t be happening. You have multiple people who said you were great in your job. An extremely disturbed night passes. Next day, until the time of the meeting, everyone acts like they know nothing. You go to the assigned room and fancy and dream that perhaps you will be promoted and there will be no nightmare. The groomed HR individual lays it down on you. Your manager is reading something that is pre-written and has no guts to even look at your face. Your stomach sinks and you want to throw up on both these individuals but you contain yourself. Your brain has stopped processing and you hear nothing after the the first couple of lines. They then usher you to a room where someone will help you for your next job. You want to throw up again on this person but you hold it all in. This person tells you how you can write a better resume and schedule meetings with them from this enormous amount of time bestowed on you. You are now a target for everyone to tell you, advice you and grovel till you find something else. You shake hands with your head spinning in all directions yet telling yourself to be calm, extremely calm because these people will not think twice after what they have done to you to hand you over to security. You are at the mercy of anyone who will help you but none of that happens. You alone and alone will find your next role. Keep your strength and your character. You have no one to answer but yourself and those who truly love you and depend on you.

Over 100 Oncology reps were offered packages at the end of last year and they were completely transparent. Everyone knew EXACTLY what everyone else got. It was a very generous “enhanced” package because so many displaced reps had over 10 years with the company. No one’s life was “ruined” everyone I know either got a new job within 3 months. I personally found the 3rd party placement firm extremely helpful. I was with Novartis Oncology over 17 years. I got a payout of over $145k and a new job in 2 months making $180k salary. $25k more than I was making. You have to be a real TOOL to bad mouth Novartis and the way they treat their reps.

You are messed up. If you went and blabbered about your package that does not mean others did. The thread is about employees who were here 5-6 months. Not about someone like you who was reaping profits, double dipping and is a crazy f ***. Why are you here when you have a new job. Time for you to move on to that company’s site. Yes lives were ruined. Only because yours was made better (sic) does not apply to others. You are not only a bigger “FOOL” for not getting it but also a “SELFISH” fool. Are you a lay-off model, you freak?

Move on and go away. Happy that you are gone. More like you should be gone. Let’s appoint this guy or is it a girl as a spokesperson for layoffs. They are just amazing and we all should be laid off. Who are you trying to fool? I used the placement firm and it was pretty much useless but if this is an ad for the placement firm, god help you.

You are not making any sense. 17 years in one single position as a rep in one place? Reps don’t make these salaries. Who are you trying to fool? HR stooge or the placement firm’s stooge. Read the thread. It is for 5-6 months not 17 years. Anyone who is here for 17 years should be long gone as they are all arrogant like you, worthless and nasty. What did you sell for 17 years?

Mr/Ms 17 years: Did you get vested? Of course you did. The 5-6 month employees will not be.
