Why is Jay an executive director? No field experience and quite frankly not even a nice guy.

He's protected by the Kristin Yarema and Michael Nohaile of the world. McKinsey favors McKinsey. Jay is a glorified individual contributor at best. He has no leadership skills. You need to be a genuine human being first to be that. McKinsey can't teach empathy, just maniac drive for results at all cost.

If by "results" you mean a pretty PowerPoint slide deck that never translates into any actual implementation/action plan, then I agree. The BCG/McKinsey circle jerk at Amgen and many other BPs is really ridiculous.

McKinsey seems to be a pyramid scheme. It reminds me of Amway

Jay will get some Chief Business Officer job at some startup biotech where they will have no idea what a hack he is. They will only see the Amgen name, the PhD and Ex-McKinsey pedigree. They will have no idea what a toxic ego driven human being he is.

JC will be VP of Mike N. buttcheck. His idea of innovation is hiring McKinsey to run pointless projects where he gets a kickback

I do wonder how much McK gives him and Kristin Yarema when she was here a kick-back for the million dollar projects they go McKinsey to do.

Can’t believe this post started in 2017. Why is he still at Amgen.

JC idolized another McKinsey consultant now CEO of RayzeBio and successful exit of Omniome. Ken Song had the VC job he coveted and now the CEO job with $$$ from various exits. He’s considered a successful entrepreneur. JC was only supposed spend a few years at Amgen but looks like he’s stuck now. The lack of empathy catches up as higher skill jobs require people management as a far greater priority than making pretty power point slides.

Amit A is now SVP at Novartis under former McKinsey CEO Vas. Jay was upset when Amit got the job at Amgen as a director despite being only an engagement manager at McK. Jay as an associate principal, several rungs higher than him but still only a director at Amgen. If Jay was so upset at Amit then, he must be livid now. I am sure he has some resentment that Kal Patel hired Amit at Amgen in the strategy group at the same level as him.
