TOXIC CULTURE corrupt leadership

DCO’s allow corruption and turn a blind eye to wring doing. DCO’s confide in a few people that spreads poison to the sales force. Then decisions are based on bad judgement and poor choices in the people they think they can trust. CTLs confide in their few trusted allies and rumors and gossip pollute the entire nation. Nothing is transparent at Merck. There are toxic circles that make short minded decisions and this lowers moral. There are no development opportunities without being part of these secret networks of corruption. You will know you are close to the inside circles when you experience work place bullies & do not sleep because of stress. People in higher roles will make decisions about you based on a small circle of people who don't know you and they will destroy your career. When will DCOs realize their confidants are bad choices and poisonous? Good luck to you and may you run in the right small circle. Expose the corruption. Who is toxic in your area?

Very accurate description of Merck as it is today. Very few happy people there right now unless they’re in Oncology and the climate is changing toward negative in that division. CC has people just trying to stay employed for a couple of more years and they will do anything to keep their job. This includes CTL’s who really bring nothing of value. They do not help sales whatsoever.

Merck as a good company that treated employees fairly ended the day Roy Vagelos announced he was stepping down....

This appears to be describing Vaccines DCO, Thomas L. Lyon III.

There are more corrupt than Tom Lyon. It’s the ones you least think and those they surround themselves with.

I disagree with you regarding Vagelos. While he was a brilliant person, he also wanted to do away with the sales force. At the time the sales force was necessary as even superior compounds must be promoted. Perhaps today the sales force is not as important due to managed care, generics, access, alternative ways to get information, etc.....

that may be true, but the fact of the matter is when Vagelos was CEO, Merck was an elite and elegant company that offered outstanding treatment of reps and benefits.

Regardless of what 'ol Roy thought about the sales force as a whole, it was an awesome company to work for during those years...

    sorry, but it just was...

I definitely agree with you! You will not get an argument from me regarding the difference in Merck today versus Vagelos' tenure. We had meaningful products to promote and we were treated very well. Roy did not have much regard for the sales organization.

Merck says they have policies on workplace bullies. If you have an issue with someone they will turn on you. Beware of the corrupt DCOs that turn a blind eye on their toxic employees and let them terrorize the sales force. Will HR ever enforce rules or just do things behind your back and let bad managers ruin your career?

I can GUARANTEE you that any policy on bullying means absolutely nothing and is not worth diddly squat. It is not a protected class in any way. And if you go to any pretended office that implies it is there for you, such as HR or office of ethice, then YOU will be the target of the company. You are the new threat to the company. If you want to survive in this toxic environment, then smile, kiss buttocks, compliment you rmanager, get along with everyone whatever it takes. Otherwise, you will be shut out of any opportunities or retainment.

Very toxic and manipulative! Just ask AMG of TR, NJ what she's done and continue to do. Who has she not thrown under the bus with lies or exaggerated truths. She'll smile and be very helpful to the people she's stabbed to cover her tracks. Those same people are idiots because they think she is a reliable shoulder to lean on. Meanwhile, AMG is collecting info to twist it.

Vaccine division is a shit show of culture. Talk about a group of people that need to retire and humanize the group again. Internal pettiness and leaders with their kiss asses making corrupt contracts and justifying policy violations left and right. The VCRs tip toe around-and don’t wine VP club if they don’t kiss up to their VKCL. The DCOs close one eye when it comes to the VKCLs violations. Some of the VKCLs ruin peoples careers with all their backstabbing and bullshit. The golden children will prevail and the select few surrounding them. More restructure to come in vaccines in 2020. Start kissing the right asses or leave.

lot of anger here, sounds like someone either wasn't good enough to get into Merck or got in but couldn't cut it and was booted...likely taking orders at a drive through window near you right now...

Doesn't sound angry. I think the people not willing to listen are the same people stirring the pot and corrupting Merck. No one said they were let go from Merck, lazy or needing another person to put them down and tell them to work at a fast food restaurant. Merck obviously has a lot of unsupportive people that do not take time to build up moral and skills. Signs of good leaders, DCOs and CTLs are the people that have multiple examples of people they have developed and been promoted. Bad leaders turn blind eyes to problems and degrade you. Obvious which bucket you fall into a-hole!

Thomas L. Lyon III definitely allows this to happen in the Midwest region. Too bad he wasn't let go but at least some of his suckup former VKCLs did.

The poster above: Wow! Buffoon speaking there. “not good enough to get into Merck?”
    That is classic!
And “couldn’t cut it”? Like cut through the mountains of excrement piled before you to shovel each day and week and month?
You, my naive friend, are living in fairy tale land. One season you might wake up. Sadly an oblivious and pathetic minion with very little awareness.
