Let’s get real. When the first pharma company decides to lay-off the floodgates will open and Amgen will follow. How many more months do we have? Covid 19 looks to be getting worse and worse and doctors offices shutting down.

virtual detailing is a failure. And pharma companies can not afford to keep paying salaries for reps to do nothing. So how long do we have you think before they lay us off?

If sales force are laid off, Amgen might have to hire replacements again in 3 months or so. It only makes sense if the prohibition on sales meetings in person lasts at least 6 months or more. There's a cost and a time delay to train new people

Nope...The WARN Act requires 60 days notice of a mass layoff so...May is not even possible. Stop trying to jerk with people. It’s so lame...BB is not going to show panic to Wall Street. This virus is bad and for real make no mistake. It’s also not going to last or be this way forever. Oh and revenue is still rolling in so it’s not like we are getting paid and no money is coming in like the restaurants, bars etc.. We are budgeted for the year and there is no reason to remove your sales team and be caught flat footed when this is over. Sure if we are locked down for several months all bets are off and sales will not be the only function at risk. However at this point in then scenario planning mass lay offs are very premature.

Rest easy, take care of your families, this too shall pass and don’t let the dopes/trolls mess with you. I’m not sure what psychological malady they suffer from but very scary if we really work next to sociopaths who get off on doomsdaying their coworkers on CP with lies.

And who the frick are you? You’re very naive.

the WARN can be implemented when layoffs occur. Many companies have had layoffs and then proceed with the 60 day WARN period. So your thought process is a Bit incorrect.
    I don’t believe the individuals
Posting are part of a “doomsday” approach, more of a realistic expectation of what could happen after the initial
    8 weeks.

The WARN Act can be filed/announced the same day as the layoffs are announced. They have to pay you until that 60 day notice ends according the way the Act is written.

you Doom and gloom people need to get a life. The sales force isn’t going anywhere. Unscheduled severance isn’t a huge cost. Every week numbers going up in my division.

We are not getting laid off. This will past. We shouldn't go back until June though. My state isn't peaking until the end of April. Dr.'s don't want us in the office and most are seeing patients through telemedicine.
This won't be forever people. Calm down. Do what you need to do to get through this. They aren't laying us off. They need the sales force.

Why not offer a voluntary early retirement package first?? Didn’t they do that once before? It may soften the blow for those of us early in our carriers with young families.

NaIve? How do? Google WARN Act. Have you not been in this business very long? Never been at a company who has “right sized”? This is how it works...must provide 60 days notice so if they announced a lay-off today it would take those affected to basically to June...not sure how that is naive? What did you offer to the conversation?

Probably not...if you think your sales force even has a 5% influence on prescribing habits all companies will take that advantage especially in multi billion markets. Perhaps in non competitive markets where you are the only drug or the clear market leader because of greatly differentiated data you could pull back personal promotion, but typically a sales force pays for itself in the first 90 days of the year from an SGA perspective. Look I get it. It’s scary times but if one company in a competitive market laid off their sales force I will bet that their closest competitor(s) will not as they will see it as a competitive opportunity. Sure if this crazy virus lasts through the summer and/or we are barred from most major medical centers who the heck knows...anything can happen. For now don’t anticipate any major knee jerk reactions by cash strong companies. BB does not want to panic the market or investors and as one of the world’s largest bio/Pharm companies there will be a lot of political pressure to maintain a certain status quo. Lastly revenue is still pouring in, we are still manufacturing and shipping drug, booking revenue. We are not in the airline, hotel, bar, restaurant, retail business model. Not saying we are bulletproof but for now we are amongst the safest industries to be in. Us and I guess toilet paper...(sorry couldn’t resist).

If you have a credible source then post it. Otherwise stop spreading BS at a time like this.

Agree with you on all points. We are blessed to be in such a safe industry and revenue is pouring in. Yes, reps are effective, but short term ....nothing is going to change.

Liked the tp comment. My Clorox stock is up too. So much for my energy stock :(

To the idiots who think we are safe. Sanofi just announced forced vacations during lockdown. Next step after that is layoffs. We are not far behind. Get your heads out of your ass! This cannot last much longer.

At B Ingelheim all employees just got an email that their job is safe until June then they will reevaluate. How much longer can this last at Amgen? I know we are bigger but I can’t see how this can keep going past June or even May.
