I can appreciate the frustration on AGE discrimination. The most widely known "SECRET" is the fact that AGE DISCRIMINATION runs rampant across America. Kind of like how we tear things down like old buildings without much thought to raise up a new, 'contemporary' piece of architecture. The TRUTH is HR, Ethics and Compliance, all the CORPORATE lawyers are focused on is the company's health and well being. Like Johnson & Johnson is a living breathing individual.

AGE discrimination is now committed in more insidious, covert manner over time and watching the alarm "thresholds" to not trigger law suits. Law suits of course, still occur; but the goal is to keep them to a minimum in number, notoriety and settlement. YOU, you 53 year-old making "a lot of money in your position" are at constant risk of discrimination. Age discrimination is far more rampant than actual racism in the corporate American workplace by nature of the shear numbers of baby boomers getting pushed out. It is actually criminal in some decent peoples view. For sure it's illegal. And absolutely immoral and unethical but even older managers, to save themselves will target older direct reports. We all know this.

We mistreat the older people in AMERICA unlike the value and respect I have seen given to older working people in other countries. I have been blessed to extensively travel the world to see and clearly contrast It is an AMERICAN DISGRACE.

When you interview with companies in tech with much younger employees and they deem you "too old" they tell you that it just isn't a "cultural fit" since they can't admit it is your age.

Great point. I've see it all as a middle manager over three decades in good ol' pharma. From clear discrimination driven from regional, vp or even director level down or at the front line manager level. They just do it in sophisticated ways these days. The truth is....IF they had real skill, real maturity to hire people EQUAL TOO or BETTER than them, they'd gladly, seriously look at hiring or promoting an OLDER person into a multi-cultural, multi-generational team. They know your age, your identified sex, your race and from there, the discussion and questions all turn.

So, they ask many things that are actually age discriminatory such as,
"Why would you want this position?" translation, your too old or over qualified to do this.
"What are your goals or aspiration?" translation, your more experienced & accomplished than I am, I am threatened.

And, even if they play it ethically in the interview, they have a 1000 reasons not to hire, promote or provide a lateral move option when you're qualified. This "they are OVER qualified" reasoning is absolutely illogical. I have hired MANY people who were OVER qualified in skills and experience who were superb in doing the JOB. It is simply an excuse to DISCRIMINATE. Remember the definition of discrimination: the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex.

Part of all this rampant discrimination, this prejudice based on AGE alone; the other part, operational expenses (i.e. you make too much). The third killer wheel's you are not their politically correct pick.

    It is an AMERICAN DISGRACE.

You obviously work "for" human resources or maybe a classy attorney here by day. No real rebuttal to someone who obviously has seen age discrimination at work here or big Pharma.

Agreed, whether that guy is a troll or works here it sounded like they had experienced age discrimination. How is that being a fat, lazy troll? Like our company hasn't done wrong things that have actually harmed people? It took law suits for them to pay up a bit on the damage. What a stretch that s company as bloated as J&J have committed age discrimination in the past 10 years.

At ETHICON, Nef and marketing leaderships explicitly put public comments that white males will not be promoted in the future.

Beyond discrimination. That's reverse racism. Personally, as a white male, I never had a slave, never condoned slavery, never practiced bigotry, hung out (when others would not) with one of the few African American's in my whole white dominated town growing up. I look at the individual or group behavior (if there is a group involved in the interactions). Not superficial crap like skin pigment. I deeply respect various cultures, religions, etc. So, I have no remorse. I support peaceful protest. I support leaders like the recently deceased John Lewis. Yet, I abhor violence, property destruction and indiscriminate destruction of people (including white males at J&J).

Why do we forget moral basics? Two wrongs don't make a right. Revenge is actually hate.

I'll tell you one reason, our executive leadership at the very top does not live life with real integrity. They play both sides of the coin, all the time to enrich themselves and maintain or grow power. They set the poorest example and that absolutely, like parents that don't exhibit moral integrity to their children, influences and degrades our company and society at large. That's part of what's going on here at Johnson & Johnson.

LMAO, you mean like this? We work for a "legal" cartel. I just finished Narcos. Can't wait to watch the Netflixs series: J&J NARCOS

The U.S. FBI is investigating corporate giants Johnson & Johnson, Siemens AG, General Electric Co and Philips for allegedly paying kickbacks as part of a scheme involving medical equipment sales in Brazil, two Brazilian investigators have told Reuters.

Brazilian prosecutors suspect the companies channeled illegal payoffs to government officials to secure contracts with public health programs across the South American country over the past two decades.

You mean “the Gorsk” is unethical............not exactly a shocker. That’s why he spent 4 years hiding at Novartis in the early 2000’s.

Yep. They go into hiding like narcos on the run; often to reappear in this incestuous industry we call PhRMA.

Who says CP is not educational.
