Why are we filling Vacant territories. Do we really need 3 reps making Zoom Calls in a territory ?

Why isn’t there a hiring freeze with the current situation ?

HQ is currently conducting analytical review given for 5 months sales actually went up with virtual business model.
Need base analysis show 1 virtual rep can cover 3 territories or 3 reps jobs.
They can make 5x the phone calls to docs a day physical calls- (not VCC but phone calls & Zoom calls).
In essence Strategy & Analytics have determine 1 rep can do the workload of 3 territories so how many reps in those territories.

Now HQ is doing a needs assessment to identity which physicians, offices, geographies would perfer a virtual phone call or VCC vs a live in person rep.
The results (due Q4), will determine how many reps are expendable & the cost savings globally.
As 1 RD told me, this covid virus created an accidental 5 month Pilot to measure impact & sales in a virtual model to compare with normal business in 2019.
(Hint- the results are not weighing in the "in person live rep"

What is a VCC? What division are you talking about? If 1 rep can do the job of 3, how many DMs and RBDs are needed? It’s always about the reps. What about management? Get rid of the many layers of useless management!

And why isn't everyone responding to this very insightful and "frightful" post? It brings sales fully into focus. Change, major change is inevitable. Never, even prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, has the overall value of us as sales reps and sales managers been lower. I am going back to the late 70's, early 80's. Before many of you were flippin' born. Grateful for 30+ years and 63. So they can take me out anytime they like. I don't need a retirement dinner. We can do that on our time and our coin. Many of you are fortunate to have made it this far. But a hard rain's gonna fall on many. And no one can stop it.

You are in an enviable position and I have to ask, why the hell are you hanging around? Retire already. But who would retire during a global pandemic with a looming layoff? Right now it’s kind of easy and if severance is in your future, I guess that answers the retirement question. Am I close with all that? I’m 54 with just under 20 years. I feel like big change is coming and I guess it needs to. Tenure typically plays a role in displacements and I am the least tenured rep in my district, so I would be the first to go, I imagine.
Hopefully there are some creative options being considered for rearranging the deck chairs. Until then, we just wait and do what we can to do several zoom interactions per day until some sort of normalcy returns or layoffs happen.

You answered the question. No reason not to hang around with what's going down.

But do not think you are going to be first on the chopping block. They have to make it, at least appear, equitable. It's not easy to make it 20 years anymore imho. Hang in there, fight, network and try to enjoy life because today is all we are promised, if that.

*look up severance package on your HR site and figure out how do you qualify for one of the three ways to score if you’re 30 years here you’re looking at 60 weeks >>>>

Well aware. My concern is with all the people and their families that could be affected that have a long way to go as things are very likely going to change in significant ways. Could be wrong. It's been said before. But hey, tens of thousands of truck and semi-drivers will be out of work and all the allied, related businesses serving those drivers, etc. as AI takes over driving those driverless vehicles across the land.

There must be a kickback from the Federal Government to be hiring for Vacant territories. This otherwise make No Sense. I guess we are living by bad judgement calls. I believe we should be Freezing all upper and lower vacancies. 2021, there will be a downsizing, you can bet on it. I told you so...

I don't know about that. But the original question is very valid. It is always valid. Now? OMG what a joke. Money to burn baby burn.

Hiring? Think Diversity...JnJ must keep appearances up. Hire right, regardless of color.

No. Lower your standards - in essence demonstrate affirmative action's Achilles. I can think of one Big Pharma company that did. And they are so proud of it.

Really? How does one rep do 3 lunches? Docs aren’t do zoom calls at any other time. If your lucky some still do breakfast.
