Has anyone been hearing virology will likely be “restructured” in October? Word leaked.

Why Virology and not another division?

Yes. People in Virology who don't know this is coming have their head in the sand.

Thought the division was doing well.

Yes, changes are coming for virology, why do u think we aren't filling vacancies? this has been coming for awhile, we have too many reps and not enuf customers. Putz didn't want to do it himself, that's why he left.

Merck virology gets everyone else's crumbs. How did Merck fall so far?

"Doing well"?? Virology sells a 10 year old drug that hasn't made plan in years and the new drugs aren't selling enough to cover expenses. How is that doing well?

It's just a matter of time

Their targets are ID docs who are swamped before COVID and no see. Post COVID, it is a miracle if you get to see them from across the parking lot. Poor Virology and hospital reps.

Too often the agent provocateurs on this site act as if losing your job at Merck is some sort of catastrophe. Sorry, but it isn't. There are plenty of other well paying jobs out there and IF these displacements even do happen thankfully it will come with a generous separation package. In the meantime I'll go about my business to the best of my ability and not worry about projections and conjecture coming most often from people with an axe to grind with the organization.

Wow, someone needs to put down the Kool-aid. People need to be prepared and more times then not this gives them a heads up of what is to come. You think many other companies are hiring reps to stay home right now with Covid? These aren’t normal times and I am guessing the calls in October won’t be either.

Well, think about it. If people need your bitter, angry posts to be prepared, then you are correct, they may struggle a bit finding other work. But the facts are everybody in this industry, not just Merck, already knows the nature of the job even the industry at this point. So relax, do your best and enjoy the now. If you try, I promise some of the resentment for Merck, the job or whatever it is that leads you to feel the way you do will start to change for the better. I really do wish that for you.

and as you say above, you are guessing.

Plenty of jobs? Really? Major layoffs and downsizing in the industry now.

Exactly. Anyone thinking they will get laid off and then just find another pharma job is in for a rude awakening. Why stay on a sinking ship until you are drowning? Much better to jump to a boat that isn’t sinking.

Found a specialty position in a week. We are sought after and in high demand.
Front line workers pulling in 3k a week and working a 15 hour week. Life is good!

Every year someone says layoffs coming. At Merck everyone cringes for October- thats when they announce layoffs.

You know other companies don’t lay off every October like Merck does, right?. Maybe if there was something in the pipeline, this wouldn’t happen every single year. Someone should be held accountable for the lack of products. R&D, total joke!!

Pipeline is solid, my question is why do we continue to carry the dead weight of sales reps when the Covid lockdown has clearly shown they add no value to revenue...time to clean our sales reps, pump the savings into more R&D!

Pipeline is solid? That is hilarious. What fantasyland do you live in?
