    Land where?

the job is an absolute joke. My advice to anyone that wants a career in sales, is to find another career.

    Willy Loman died a loser.

Willy Loman was a tragic character and is an over-exaggeration anyways.

    Sales is a great career.

Such is life. Even Doctors have a fucked up job when you think about. One surgical screw up and they are done.

Accountants/Lawyers: One major fuck up and they are done.

And this is the human experience. Nothing is guaranteed. If you want guarantees join the union, make less money and continue to take take take.

I got out of pharma and am back in b2b sales, make great money and save for the future. When you look at the richest people in the world, the most powerful, etc they were all basically salesmen.

    Good points.

If you don't mind me asking, what B2B would you recommend?

Pharma is OK, but I want a challenge because I love to compete. In pharma, I feel that the only thing I am competing with is my manager on field rides. Its such a drag.

    Thanks!

I lost my job in pharma and now work in the insurance industry. I'm not in sales, but can tell you that the top 1,000 financial reps (insurance salesman) in my company make an average of $240,0000 per year. I was shocked. I would not want to sell insurance, but only mention it because there are other ways to make money than pharma. By the way, I make more now than when I was in pharma.

It is true. A friend of mine just had 2 offers in device after coming from entry level b2b sales. Took him 7 weeks to get a job.

Then there is my mooch of an uncle, one of those guys on 99 weeks unemployment with another 50 coming or something like that..flat out old me "I make just about as much at home on unemployment as I would working...well maybe not as much but it has been nice to stay home the past 2 years and get money for nothing.."

His father (my grandfather) and I get so disgusted with this attitude!

OP my advice is to look at a career outside of Pharma. I was doing nothing but look for a job and I thought I had a lot of skills. So I went 1099 and straight into the Insurance business. Shortly after starting I found a guy who was selling his book of business. I bought it and struck out on my own as an independent agent. So now I am CEO, CFO, COO, of my own little business which consists of me!!! The skills I knew I had and the type A personality I knew I wasn't going to fail!! I am on my way to 240k and someday soon I will be there. But right now I don't work weekends, minimal nights, I coach my kids sports, participate in activities at my kids school during the day and have a steady income growth due to my work ethic. I don't live to work I work to live. Insurance may not be sexy but it provides very well for my families needs!

thanks for the encouragement. What was the "final straw" for you? Why did you leave?

    Happy New Year!

My Final Straw was when we had to do role plays in front of the "class".

I mean, I am 42 years old and I am doing "role plays"? Wtf have I done with my life?

    Geeus in Heavan.

my final straw is having to take shit all day long from the office staff, drs, patients, corporate, counterparts, then - at the end of the day - 3 kids to take shit from - something has to give

I have interviewed and interviewed over the last year. Still no job. I have no idea how this all came to fruition, but I would have been far better off in the long run to have taken a stable office job for 50k versus chasing a carrot for 15 years.

I currently dread waking up in the morning.

I feel the pain, utterly humiliating. What is funny is some hiring managers want existing relationships. A year ago I was in training and spent and a good deal of time in the field.
oddly, I did not see any physician relationships. However, I did see relationships with the front desk, house keeping, office manager and nurses aides.

They should do role plays for the front desk because you seldom see a physician anymore.

When you get into your 40s it is totally brutal, it is an age were being blown off starts to register with your self worth.

I am with you. I have been at for over a year. If you are over 40, for get it. My interviews feel more like charity than a prospect. I have lost a great deal of money and time. Lesson learned

I know many many reps, in thier 40's/50's that have gone to new careers in related fields. Gone from pharma to eyecare etc. As for other careers, why not? Insurance, finacial products etc. Pharma has built its own coffine, products are at the cliff, and it seem that the industry has no fix. The answer is not to shed experience, but they do it. Want a glimps into the future. China will lead the world in pharma development, in ten years, China is leading in researcher recruitment. Chinsese companies will soon own US pharma companies. The Chinese will not put up with the BS coming from current Pharma leader. Look for a whole new model built on returns, and effectiveness. Think about these as the last days of the current pharma sales model.
