I just stumbled upon this site, pretty much by accident, and was excited to see a place for Quest employees to communicate with one another. I was sad to see the posts that were negative, about people leaving Quest, but those were a few years ago so hopefully things have improved. I'm a tech with a different perspective maybe, because I have worked in a variety of labs, hospitals, small and large, and have been both a bench tech and in middle and upper management, and chose to return to the bench. I also owned my own business for a while. That was a very valuable experience for me. Really made me appreciate just coming in to work, not having to "balance the books", worry about payroll, business expenses, workers comp, paying unemployment tax, and other business related expenses. Still to this day though I can't help but wonder about the Quest lab that I work in - how much is the monthly electric bill, the phone bill, water bill? Having had you own business makes you think of these things, and makes you glad you don't have to worry about them!

Our benefits package is also pretty outstanding, imo. Health insurance alone is pretty much worth coming to work for. (I know people who hade remained married just for health insurance.) I was watching the news a couple of days ago about the coal mine accident in WV. The reporter was interviewing the wife of one of the miners who was killed. He was trying to get her to make a statement about the mining company. This woman said "I am not going to stand here and trash the company that puts bread on my table". I think that's one of the most honorable statements I have ever heard. She honored herself, and her husband. I may be alone in my opinion, but I don't think we should bite the hand that feeds us and our families.

I like working in the laboratory, as a bench tech. I willingly chose to go into that field, no one forced me to, no one chose for me. I think I made a good decision. If I get to the point that I no longer feel that way, then I'll no doubt do something different, but as long as I'm working for Quest, I'll not complain, or trash the company. I have an outstanding supervisor and manager, both of whom work their butts off and seem to love their jobs. We have our share of complainers in our department, but they're recognized for just what they are, whiners and complainers. I don't think they would be any more satisfied if they worked at a small lab, or a hospital, or in India, or if Mother Theresa were the manager, or Ghandi, or Jesus, or Hitler, it just wouldn't matter.

So how is your Quest? I do hope it is as good as ours!!!

um ya right.. manager and supervisor happen to be RP and ND?? RP is ineffective at best, doesnt' have a clue what the hell is going on and if there's a problem? RP hopes it will just go away without having to do anything to rectify.. ND is so condescending it's almost a parody, a caricature of condescention! and ND can't even ask fact finding questions because ND LOVES to jump to conclusions and make assumptions about situations so she can make a kill.. if there are complainers in that department it's because management reaps what they sow.

You probably would have been against fighting the British, too. Set a standard and live by it and insist your company do the same. If you are satisfied with this company you've got pretty low standards. "Dear Surya, thank you for the meatloaf and brussel sprouts........."

I hope you remain happy at Quest. Most people like it at first for the same reasons you say BUT in time, they will churn you up and spit you out and get a new tech to take your place or get rid of that manager you like so much.
The only people that do well at Q are liars and ass kissers that only say what the company wants to hear.
You will see what I mean !

I agree this company just has a reduction in force and tells the employees Sorry we did so poorly this year the employees are getting a crappy raise and goal sharing is a joke , but hey we have money to buy back billions in stock options from GSK and then purchase a lab in MA for 750 million ! I feel so used as an employee of this company, everyone on top gets a large share of the wealth , and we get to hold the Sh#++y end of the stick
