    Health Reform and Medicare

Many people have asked how the health reform bill will affect Medicare. Here is what we know so far:
    1. Medicare taxes individuals 2.9 percent while they are working for Medicare Part A (Hospitalization). If the health reform bill passes, individuals would also be taxed on dividends and interest that they earn.
    2. Medicare Advantage Plans would suffer from stiff cuts. There are 10 million Medicare recipients on this type of plan. Many are predicting severe cuts in basic services and premium increases. The rational behind cutting funding to these plans is simple: money. Medicare Advantage Plans cost the taxpayer anywhere from 12-14% more than Original Medicare.
    3. The infamous “doughnut hole” would be eliminated by the year 2020.
