I asked that Daniels Sharpsmart Inc be included in CafePharma Boards because they are in healthcare and felt the need for an open forum for those within and outside the company to discuss what actually occurs at Daniels Sharpsmart Inc. Pros, Cons, Likes, Dislikes. The company is certainly unique however that may not be a compliment. I know alot of people would like to share with others their experiences and perhaps give a "heads up" to newcomers or potential newcomers. Thought the company is small, I'm certain the posts will be passionate. I hope this helps others whom are interested in the company.

I have been contacted by a recruiter for Daniels Sharpsmart. Can anyone tell me about this company? It looks like they are rapidly growing and it sounds like a great opportunity. Any major red flags I should worry about? Any info would be appreciated!

Run Away!!! People don't last more than 3 years because they either get fired or the rep wants to leave and does. They had approx 14 sales reps midyear. I know at least 7 people left or were fired since summer. Never worked for such a low morale company. Absolute nightmare. Guys who were hired 4 months ago being let go for underperforming when the typical sales cycle is months long. Makes no sense.

If you like sunday night teleconferences where you get beat up for not producing by the CEO, (he has never complimented anyone), if you like the finance dept taking weeks to months to get you a price to provide your potential customer, if you like never having no annual review, if you like no annual raise, if you like no 401K, if you like declining benefits, if you like national meetings where everyone talks about looking for another job, if you like customer service problems that you are responsible for but have little control over then this is your company.
Never worked for a more backwards company. Just ask their turnover rate. For hourly staff, its nearly 50% per year. Don't waste your time. Best thing that could happen is the company folds or gets bought out. Extremely unethical.

Enough said. I really like the idea of medical waste sales, but maybe Stericylce, Waste Mgmt etc...would be a safer bet.

The options in the industry for Sales People are,

Stericycle - the 800 Pound Gorilla,
Daniels Sharpsmart - The up and comer with the best products
Waste Management - They are getting out of the business and are sacking and laying off layers of management

Their sharps container is designed better but the company support sucks. The better container is less and less significant as other safety devices are used in the hospital setting. It is basically a commodity and price is the determining factor. You will mostly be selling rmw, regulated medical waste service. Again, it will come down to price. Unfortunately the company's service reputation is not good, and selling will be a challenge. It seems to take them a very long time to provide a price quote. The reps seem committed but their price offering is incomplete. Small fees are pushed aside and must be examined by any health care provider. Stericycle has similiar up charges but service is more consistent. Waste Management is also available for RMW services.
From what I have heard, I would strongly recommend another company. They seem to have alot of turnover, much higher than other companies within the waste business.

Daniels = Joke. Came from the surgical industry...was promised big things...promises were straight up lies.

By far the worst company I have worked for. They have a good pitch while you're interviewing with them. Apparently told the guy who replaced me that he can make $180k....hahahahahaha SUCKA! Maybe if he takes the VP's job. Once on board it's pretty easy to see the writing on the wall and what/who they actually are. I worked for them for 2 years prior to being let go a few months ago. When I first came on board the company seemed to be in a "good" competitive position. The product IS top notch.....unfortunately nothing else is. Customer service...horrendous. Billing....horrendous. Realistic expectations....horrendous. Positive motivation on the sales force...nonexistent.

I worked in one of the largest territories in the U.S. Should be sustainable by 2-4 reps easy. They let the guy in the northern area go shortly after I came on and I was asked to cover the entire state. I replaced 2 Reps w/o any increased pay, yet forced to fly back and forth frequently. We had and still have one waste plant. I was promised there would be a more local southern plant within 8 months of being hired to make us more competitive. Never happened. When submitting bids to our finance department the margins were wiped out and pricing went through the roof and wasn't close to competitors. This is one small example of many. It feels like your selling against your own company. They motivate by, like said above, ripping you on a Sunday night conference call. Never heard a single positive thing come out of the CEO's mouth...and the VP, who knows what we go through on a regular basis, won't even step up to defend everyone. It's a poisonous environment and I couldn't be happier being out.

That said, if you're considering joining the "organization"...........don't. If getting into the waste industry...I'd check out Stericycle.

Stericycle, Waste Management and Covidien own this business. Daniels has a decent product but not getting much traction because Stericycle and WM lock everyone down and own most of the landfills. Covidien, everythough disposable, is still a force and making headway in putting plans in place with Steri and WM. DO NOT take that job!

Here's the thing about this industry. Every single company has problems (Stericycle is the giant but customers hate them, like passionately hate them: Daniels has potential but can't get out of their own way as evidenced by this thread: and WM is trading off their reputation in the solid waste business but have absolutely NO idea what they are doing in the medical waste field). I would advise to avoid this industry. I got out 1.5 to 2 years ago and couldn't be happier. There's too much drama from what I remember. All three companies mentioned above are too big and too corporate which leaves the top brass at each company making decisions that do not translate in everyday business. Imagine working for any of these companies and a handful of people are sitting behind a desk making important decisions but have never walked in any of their employees shoes. Completely frustrating. They are all out of touch with what the customer really wants (simplicity). If any of these companies were smart they would sincerely sit down with knowledgeable employees and seek their advice on what would make them more successful, improve upon, focus on. But they don't, they think they know it all. If you must, and If you can weather the growth pains, I would start with Daniels. Then Stericycle but be prepared to be treated as a number and a temp and incredible negativity and low morale. And I wouldn't even consider Waste Managment. I heard they are folding the healthcare business cause they are losing tens and tens of millions each year and probably regret even trying to get back into the business. They recently fired about half the healthcare employees (Sales, plant, and drivers). Best of Luck to you. You should google Stericycle Complaints for more info.

I would suggest avoiding Daniels like the plague. This is the most disorganized group in the medical waste field. Product is first class, but the support, billing, pricing and management will leave you frustrated and unable to obtain business. Look at the trail of failures that have gone before you.

While the CEO interferes in the US business , publicly berates people and demotivates the staff, do not join, he has no idea, CEO is the reason so many sales people have left the company

Hello...to add to this great thread, this is a special transmission from your CEO Markus Cock direct from the penal colony down under.

First off, I want you all to know that I drive an Audi and just in case you didn't already come to this brilliant conclusion, I'm a superior human being in every aspect.

Second, I also want you to know that I'm extra special because I'm German but I live in Austrailia with the rest of these Aussie Dingo bastards.

And third, Austrailian interference in US business operations will be expanded incompetently and will continue indefinitely or at least until the company goes down in flames or is purchased by an idiotic and unsuspecting 3rd party as is typically the case in the high integrity and well respected field of medical waste management.

To update you, Sunday evening conference calls will be held weekly from now until you exit the company. As a special measure, during NFL football season, these conference calls will be extended from 1 hour to 3 hours. All conference calls will include extensive & awkward public humiliation and will be followed by 30 minutes of waterboarding (1 hour if you do not achieve +150% of your unrealistic sales quota).

Also, please remember that however hard you work and whatever good you do for this company simply will not be good enough. We will continue raising the bar (that is assuming we can find the bar as I believe someone in either Executive Management or Finance may have misplaced it and if so we'll need to forge a new bar as quickly as possible). We will keep you updated on the status of this.

Just in case you got your hopes up, I wanted to remind you that you shouldn't even think about making any commission here because through our creative accounting, complex commission plans, convoluted CBA process, and questionable company policies, we will figure out a way to take it away from you. In fact, how about you just start paying the company for the pleasure of working at this fine establishment? I'll get with Finance and make this a top initiative on my priority list.

For our next order of business, please schedule your procedures ASAP to have the Medismart containers surgically attached to your bodies. This is the necessary next step we must take as an organization to insure these containers are with you at all times because as you know, if you do not have a Medismart container with you, you are nothing more than a simple "Garbage Man" and we just can't have a bunch of simple Garbage Men running about and mucking things up.

To close things out because I'm such a witty, inspiring, intelligent, superior, well respected and motivational leader, I have three special words for you, can you guess what they are? Maybe we can play a fun little game of Hangman to help you out although this did take the Canadian team about 12 hours and they had to use their lifeline to call in their Canuck buddy Michael Sloopka to help them figure it out but what else would you expect?

Here, I'll help you out, are you ready? Here they are:

    SELL MORE NOW!!

Ha! Ha! Ha! I'm so funny. Very good. That is all for now. Markus out...

And now Markus fires another sale person

He is on a roll, how many people can you hire and fire in 12 months???

    When will he learn???

The German in him keeps coming out, more firing!!

Dan Daniels where are you, save this company from this mad man!!
