Good for you but not for the company so this would NEVER happen here. They want you to stay during the whole term...or you'd get nothing! Not $5000, not $10000, it is either $15000 or $0. That's why sigs are required, to make you believe that once that you signed the contract you sold your soul, but you can leave anytime you want, it's just that you won't get the bonus if you don't stay.

Got a 30,000 $ retention bonus at another company. No one had to sign anything. That would be considered duress anyway if it went to court in most states. Good Luck

Why the added step of processing signed contracts? Just give the 15k out in June 2012

June 2012 or 2013? The sigs guarantee that you will not collect on January and leave right after.

Wondered what the purpose was about the agreement myself. Was worried that it might have a no-compete in it, happy to see it didn't. I think it is a way to show potential suiter that they are working on retention for a smooth transition. Also, it may be a way to screw the percentage who never open their email or complete tasks on time. Make sure you sign it, hate to have anyone be told sorry, but no soup for you just because it was not returned on time.
