I'm a rep with no PBM department. Was curious if generic companies offer rebates to insurance companies?? Our branded WAC prices are close to the generic WAC, but yet we often get 3rd tier copays vs. the generic 1st tier. Would like to do some legwork myself and improve coverage in my territory. Want as much information as possible going into the fight.

Generic co's don't need to offer rebates.
Payers usually set a MAC price for a drug that has generic alternatives.
A MAC is the max allowable cost they will pay for the drug.
The pharmacy if it is chain selects which generic supplier to buy from.
The payers cost is no more than the MAC.
In most cases the MAC is less than the generic copay so plan pays nothing for most generics.
The pharmacy makes its money by paying less for the generic than the MAC.

As a former NAM, I appreciate your initiative. The info supplied is correct. If you have no managed market account managers, go see the pharmacy director. However, if you have account manager(s), don't even call!!!!! Customers detest that behavior.

Are you selling an FDA ANDA apporoved true generic? Or a patent protected "authorized generic" (which is actually a brand)?
