Don't blame the consultant for managers outsourcing decision making capabilities. Consultants come up with a lot of ideas, but only a useless manager would implement them blindly.

It is managements fault for not applying reason to the data. "those territories can not be combined" "there is not enough business there to squeeze in another head" "1:5 manager:rep ratio is way too low and will result in micromanagement" Otherwise you are stuck with "the computer model made me add 20 more reps to Chicago" or "Sure 1 rep can cover the entire mid west, the model says it is a balanced territory" Have management grow a pair and use some independent thought or at least get some field input.

If the captain's brain is MIA don't blame the ship's computer or navigator for running you ashore.

then a new crop of managers uses them to fix the prob they caused in first place. funny, but how many companies are competing against each other, yet they all have zs pulling the strings.

ZS just offshores your call plans - think about your territory being designed by a call center in India - nice people mind you, just low bid and out of the loop on the business. The ZS US guy shows the power point to the Amgen sales ops guy who nods and signs off.

If I was a rep (and I'm not) I'd be crying about what ZS and Amgen sales ops did to hose my work week also.
