Why did they really even bother? This has caused me problems already with the Patterson branches I call on. Now they think they can't trust me and what I hear, it's not even that good. Then we align with Schien and further alienate Patterson. A friend of mine that was at the ADA said that the way people found out was that some sort of publication was left at the front door of their hotel room and woke up to that. So I'm guessing that since it was ADA that many of Patterson Dentals higher ups were there and were greeted by that news.

    Way to go.

Coming from a Patterson rep, I can tell you no one is overly worried about the new 3M scanner or views you as more of a competitor today than yesterday. One of the best pieces of advice ever offered to me in this business (by my awesome 3M rep) was to trust no one. It was only a matter of time before 3M got serious about digital impressioning as impression material is such a huge part of your dental business. We get it. And the fact that you opened Schein up as the first dealer only makes sense. As one who sells a fair amount of Cerec, I truly believe competition is good. The more CAD CAM solutions offered by reputable companies, the faster this technology reaches full acceptance.

The fact remains that Sirona and Patterson offer the only truly integrated solution from scanning to milling and integration of 3D imaging for implant placement and guided surgery. Sirona spends more in R&D annually than D4D has sold in total systems since inception. That doesn't make us perfect. It just makes us better than E4D. Way better when considering our new Omnicam. After all, Schein sells tons of Cerec in Europe. As it so happens and through huge investment, Patterson has the exclusive with Sirona in America. The fact that E4D, 3M, and now Planmeca are offering open platform integration trying to cobble together the pieces to match Cerec and Galileos is actually good news for us our customers.

So I wouldn't sweat your Patterson reps not trusting you. If they're smart, they never really did anyway. At the end of the day, 3M and Patterson are well aligned and their business models seem to run in parallel. I sell more 3M in my territory than Kerr and Caulk combined and that is not likely to change.
